Biography of Simon Eve | |
Simon Eve is label manager for the EVE Records Group, running several labels, ranging from the hard house of Recharge and hard trance of Recover, through to the pioneering trance of Discover and Jinx UK, working alongside label artists of the calibre of K90, Paul Glazby, Signum, BK, Prime Mover, Pablo Gargano, John Askew, Nick Sentience and Weirdo. He writes for scene leading publication DJ Magazine, and is an established international DJ and producer in his own right. Today he holds residencies and regular guest spots at many leading UK nights such as Insomniacz, Superfish!, Sundissential, Dance Academy and Recoverworld, with regular overseas dates at the legendary Dance Valley events in Holland, and clubs in Japan, South Africa and Australia.
Simon Eve began his career back in 1996 and soon caught the eye of one of the UK's premier DJ's at the time, Pete Wardman, who made him a resident at his legendary Sunday afternoon sessions, Sherbet at the Soundshaft in London. He learnt how to play quality warm up sets and prime the dancefloor for the big names that followed him, and it wasn't long before Simon moved up through the ranks on the London circuit, securing main set residencies at some of the capital's most prestigious nights, including Freedom at Bagleys Film Studios, the award winning Wildlife at Heaven where he played alongside guests of the calibre of Carl Cox, John 'OO' Fleming and Scott Bond, and the Tinrib Recordings nights Fish! with fellow residents Steve Thomas, Karim, Dave Randall & Captain Tinrib.
Today he holds down residencies at Insomniacz in Sheffield and Leicester, The Fishtank in Portsmouth and Recoverworld and Antiworld in London, as well as regular guest appearances at many other leading UK and International club nights, including Sundissential in Birmingham, Drum in Aberdeen, Dance Academy in Plymouth, Sinergy in Manchester, Temple Theatre in Dublin, System 6 and Hard Kandy in Australia, 96 Degrees and Truth in South Africa, Protocol, Velfarre and Code in Japan, and in Holland the legendary Dance Valley events including HQ, the 12,000 capacity main arena at Impulz, and the hard dance arena at the 50,000 capacity Dance Valley Festival.
His range of residencies and guest slots clearly displays his musical versatility, and this remains one of his strongest attributes today, enabling him to play from tough, funky house, through to trance and the hardest of hard house depending on the club, crowd, country and atmosphere. Undoubtedly what sets him apart from other leading DJs is the music at his disposal - through his work at Eve Records on the Recover, Recharge, Discover and Retek labels he works with many of the scene's leading producers, enabling Simon to pick up the cream of the crop of new studio productions and road test them in his sets months before anybody else. Add to this the upfront CD-Rs and promos he's sent from virtually every leading label in Europe through his work at DJ Mag, you can begin to understand how he generates a unique sound that virtually no other DJ can match until weeks or months later!
Already 2003 is shaping up to be bigger and better than 2002 for Simon. In January his remix of DJ Snowman 'And Then They Start To Dance' was released on Recover and his own 'Genesis EP' was released on Recharge in February and awarded Single of the Month in the March issue of Mixmag. Later the same month he toured Australia, taking in dates at Chemistry, Stardust Festival, System 6 and Hard Kandy, as well as recording his set at the February Recoverworld event in London for the Recoverworld Live compilation CD, released in April. In March his remix of Overload 'Duel' on Toolbox was licensed onto the Tidy Trax Insomnia 4 compilation, and he also returned to Holland to play at the 25,000 capacity Impulz Festival. June saw Simon appear on the cover of M8 Magazine, having compiled and mixed a special cover CD, and his remixes of Neo & Farina 'Wav Assassin' and Mark Gray 'Why Am I?' were also released to critical acclaim before a further tour to Japan in August.
