This podcast was recorded live in New York at the Tar & Feathered opening party, where Taimur Agha played alongside ASC [Mote Evolver/Perc Trax/Auxiliary]. In preparation for the boat party he just recently played for the Fasten Musique Concrete crew on May 20th in Tokyo, the team had asked Taimur previously if they could use this mix for their new podcast series. This podcast is number 002.

We have not talked much about New York yet, but this town has had quite an amazing history when it comes to nightlife both past and present. Taimur Agha is one of the top DJ’s to come out from the New York scene.
We have not talked much about New York yet, but this town has had quite an amazing history when it comes to nightlife both past and present. Taimur Agha is one of the top DJ’s to come out from the New York scene. Co-founder of the Blkmarket Membership nights, Taimur has gone onto playing alongside almost everyone that you can think of. Aside from being an amazing vinyl digger, he has also become one of the most interesting promoters in the Big Apple thanks to the Blk|Market Membership parties he throws, considered by many as the best parties in town. He is also part of halcyon the shop, New York’s leading vinyl shop, where he works as the buyer for all things house and techno. A record label is on the horizon, and needless to say that we can’t wait for this to happen…

Usually, Taimur tends to record lengthy podcasts, but this time he managed to restrain himself to deliver us a 90 minutes length podcast. The mix embodies his vision of the warm-up: a deep and cool mood, a nice collection of tracks, but above all, a real talent to turn up the energy, that’s what we’ll remember about this mix. Anyways, it’s proof that in New York, they know whats up.

Ahead of his debut at Fabric on April 16th, we caught up with the man who has his finger in every conceivable musical pie in North America to chat in depth about why New York’s techno scene is on fire, the launch of his Blkmarket Membership label and the curious role of scoundrels, bandits and robbers on his highly-recommended radio show. Check out the exclusive 2h 38min podcast as well.
Taimur Agha has been engorged in the rapidly growing shape of New York’s techno community since it’s 90’s heyday. Whether he’s DJing at one of his legendary Blkmarket Membership events, hosting his radio show, The Bandwagon, or working as the house & techno buyer at the fabled Halycon record store, his hunt for fresh music is entirely dedicated. Having honed his DJ skills over the years he’s graced the decks alongside some of the world’s biggest names, including artists like Tyrant, Craig Richards, Ivan Smagghe, Marco Carola, Sasha, Three and Dixon - just to name a few.

Podcast n°124, featuring Taimur of Blk|Market Membership might well be the longest in our series. American technoheads and those in NY particularly are already be familiar with the DJ because he is one of the most important promoters on the East Coast.
His Blk|Market Membership events are largely responsible for NY’s return on the global party scene with stellar line-ups featuring the hottest international acts in techno and tech-house. He is also the record buyer at Halcyon, Brooklyn’s own version of Phonica records, if you will.

Naturally, Taimur came up with a genuine digger’s mix, a mysterious blend of rare vinyl-only grooves that spans 2h46min. So sit back, relax and enjoy this set which brought me back to Fabric room 1, reminding me of an early morning Craigs Richard session. In other words, truly timeless but always relevant.
