Biography of XI (UK)
|Real name / ||Andrew Wright|
|Moniker(s) / ||Kontort|
Andrew Wright is a man driven by his passion for electronic music. Spending the last 8 years DJ’ing, as XI, around the top London venues such as fabric, Cable, Corsica Studios and supporting the likes of Chris Liebing, Ben Klock, Surgeon, James Ruskin, Pår Grindvik and more, he’s developed a style of subtle set building and an ability to integrate into any set time, whether it be warm up, peak time or close, to provide the right soundtrack for any given moment.
In 2010, inspired by a mix he recorded that won DJ Mag’s Pick ‘n’ Mix competition (Sep 09) he launched his Slash Dot Dash project. What began as a string of parties, featuring Sandwell District, Redshape, Traversable Wormhole and Samuli Kemppi to name a few, expanded to include a blog and podcast series which give him a greater platform to support the techno scene and the artists within it that so greatly inspired him.
2011 saw the birth of his Kontort production alias. Using a combination of vintage analog hardware, modern software and live recordings, he transferred the subtlety from his DJ sets into his music. His abilities were soon noticed and signed to the Italian label Toffler Music, and his first release came later the following year. With his next on the imprint on the way in 2013, there’s plenty more ahead.
