Fresh from a bristling return to the Horse and Groom in May, and basking in the reflective glory of a scorching Bank Holiday weekend, Dropout makes its play for continuing the summer’s early promise on the 13th June. Once again we’ll be manning the top floor, with the rip-roaring Spin Out Records on board downstairs. Alongside Spin Out's own heralded residents will be special guests from across the capital making Shoreditch's hidden gem spoilt for musical choice.
Following a storming set from Landed’s Nathan Kyle last month, Dropout is more than chirpy to welcome the Disassociates, a pairing of Londoners that are swiftly making their mark on the capital. Dan Kinasz and Dan Riding are in their fifth year of musical alchemy, and land at the Horse and Groom to the sound of their eclectic sets, and a recent addition to infamous after hours Redlight.
One thing that remains untainted: Dropout’s commitment to shit-hot music, free from inflated egos and outrageous riders. It’s not about out-of-touch superstar DJs, or chrome-filled impersonal dancefloors, but getting back to basic, good quality house and techno in a venue that cares more about the music than the mullet. So, on 13th June at the Horse and Groom, turn on, tune in and Dropout.
Disassociates (Redlight)
Disassociates is something of an apt moniker for this East-end pair, as they don’t exactly slot glove like into any of The Smoke’s scenes. Gigging individually for several years, the two Dan’s – Kinasz and Riding - joined forces in 2005, since which point they’ve been involved in two of the city’s most forward thinking house and techno nights – ‘Get Out’ and their eponymous ‘Disassociate’.
Deck duties have been shared with a veritable melting pot of underground names, including: Jimpster, Damian Lazarus, Padded Cell, Kiki, Ellen Alien, Justus Kohnche, Two Armadillos and Alex Smoke – mirroring their broad sonic outlook, which during their sets sees them takeing in everything from low-slung, tracky disco; deep, driving tech-house; and warm, melodic techno; but with a diligent communal ear for programming – there’s always a definitive thread running throughout. 2009 sees the pair join the residential ranks of Terry Hart’s legendary afters, ‘Red Light’, as well seal a weekend slot, hosting a new party at one of the
most exciting new venues in Shoreditch (it's all hush hush for now) - so it looks set to be a corking year for the burgeoning duo.
Guy Hornsby (Dropout)
Guy’s fifteen-year love affair with house music has taken him on a winding path through sub-genres, numerous fashion crimes and many of the country’s best-loved dancefloors. In the tenth year of his DJ career, the Londoner’s firmly settled on a blend of deep, groovy and techy house, always aimed at moving feet, not stroking chins, and will take in the sunny climes of Croatia’s Petracane at the Airbound festival in July. With a new remix out in May on Landed, and more new tracks to primed for this month, it’s a production career that’s slowly gaining momentum and garnering him attention in the city he calls home. It is, as they say, a marathon, not a sprint.
Jamie Richards (Resident)
Jamie Richards has covered a good deal of ground on his electronic odyssey so far - relocating to Leeds in his late teens and forming StefJam with partner in crime Stefan Lesik - Jamie rocked a plethora of dance floors throughout the city. Then, returning to the Capital as a resident at DropOut, a forward thinking party focusing on good sounds, good times and a no pretension mentality. 2008 was a frenetic and exciting year for Jamie, holding down a full time career, a residency and a number of guest sets at parties across London. Over the past five months Jamie has been tinkering in the studio, working on a smorgasbord of deep, warm, rhythmic house that is ready for a full dancefloor assault as summer approaches. Watch this space..
Stef Lesik (Dropout)
From rocking the dancefloors at his home town in Cambridge at the age of 17, to holding down a number of residencies in Leeds and London, Stefan Lesik has continued to take on slots at some of the country's most established venues.
Teaming up up with Jamie Richards in 2004 to form StefJam, the rumbunctious duo hit on a winning formula providing Leeds and beyond with a fresh and vibrant approach to house music. Now living in North London, Stefan is concentrating on a new venture - DROPOUT - based in Shoreditch and guaranteed to make a lasting impression...
