Robbie Lowe is undeniably one of Australia’s most talented and respected DJ’s. If an international artist has come through Sydney over the past decade, Robbie has warmed up their dancefloor at least once. If a young DJ has made an impact on the Sydney’s underground house scene over the same time, Robbie may well have given them their start. Robbie has been given props by some of the biggest names in dance music today, that include John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela & Danny Howells. More recently Robbie was the chosen warm up DJ for Tiesto’s Sydney - Elements Of Life Tour - shows. Each was to over 5000 people at The Hordern Pavillion.

It all started with a childhood obsession with creating mixtapes (when you could get him away from his other passion of surfing), and then the influence of the late 80s rap, acid and hip house movements took hold. Eventually the dual tape decks was swapped for turntables and vinyl, and pretty soon every spare moment was spent either mixing, buying records, or preparing for the next gig – to the point where taking sick days to stay home and mix records wasn’t uncommon. Robbie was hooked, and Sydney’s dancefloors were the winner.

Over his 15 year career behind the decks Robbie’s sound has moved between deep and tech house to progressive and techno, but he’s always drawn back to anything that has that classic house and techno feeling. “I just like the way a lot of early electronic music seemed to have a lot of focus for the dancefloor,” he says, and whether headlining a local club night or setting the scene for an international heavyweight this focus remains the same.

So what do you do when you’ve played alongside your biggest influences as a DJ? Overseas gigs have already beckoned, with a two month stint in New York in 2004 seeing him play The Sullivan Room, Le-Souk and Dumboluna Festival under the Brooklyn Bridge, while a 2006 trip to London was highlighted by a support slot for Umek at the now defunct Turnmills club.Robbie has also taken up the reins as part label manager for the UK-based Beat Code and Low Pressings imprint, the latter of which has a ten year history and lengthy back catalogue.

These new roles go hand in hand with Robbie’s new production focus – his union with Sydney progressive house producer gun Matt Rowan bore fruit through 2007/08 with releases on Hussle, Outta Limits and Rococo, and he’s recently turned in remixes for Beat Code alongside Tim Jirgenson.

Add to this a forthcoming solo EP and remix work with fellow Sydney DJ Tim Culbert (with who he also compiles the Colour mix series showcasing the deeper side of house music) and it’s clear the childhood obsession is now a lifetime passion for the eternally humble Robbie Lowe.

If you think House Music in Sydney, You think Venuto. The Last 10 years has seen the rise of this dj to the top of the Industry, where he now sits very comfortably at the forefront of The Australian House scene. His Unique sound of house music has seen him become one of the most sort after DJ’s in Sydney, playing at every major club around town, including the biggest house/tech house nights Australia has to offer.

In 2008 Venuto toured in ibiza playing venues such as ES VIVE, ES PARRADIS, and playing main room at the world’s greatest nightclub AMNESIA. It’s been his production recently that is causing a major stir. With his next single LOVE coming out this summer, this track is set to be a massive hit around the world. Also having his remix of DANISM- MESMERISE signed to MN2S.

Venuto has a host of remixes and original material out on labels such as (music x press, minimo records, soulman records, South American house, Rythem selector and one love) not to mention a heap of new original and remixed tracks being released throughout the rest of 2009.

Keep an ear out for the sound that Venuto has stamped down as his own.
