New weekly at the Water Taxi Beach opens with a bang!
Seen as perhaps the pioneer of the new experimental/minimal house style in France over ten years ago with releases on Brif, ARK has gone on to collaborate with and inspire a multitude of today’s established and rising stars across Europe... and the world !
From his origins as guitarist in a number of 80's funk bands, most notably Trankilou, where he hooked up with the legend that is Pepe Bradock and onto the great Matthew Herbert & LoSoul with their first collaboration, 'Belle Lurette' in '99. The 'Alleluyark' EP series from 2003 reaffirmed as his status as chief protagonist of experimental, groove led house and techno. His 2005 long player on Perlon, 'Caliente' won him critical acclaim, which is furthered by his more recent works together with Shalom (as Shalark), Krikor (as Krikark), Cabanne (as Copacabannark), Mikael Weill (as Les Cerveaux Lents) and Dolibox (EP coming soon on Karat records). His cannon of remixes is as long as the channel tunnel, reworking the likes of Stephen Beaupre, Mr. Ozio, Archive, Mossa, Salif Keita, Slabb, Krikor, Fym, Cabanne...
Ark played his powerful live acts and dj sets in the most famous clubs on the planet, including Rex Club Paris, Unit Tokyo, Panorama Bar + Maria + Tresor + Arena + Watergate + Week-End Berlin, Usine Geneva, Shanti Moscow, Icke Micke + Flex Wien, Razzmatazz Barcelona, Zukunft + Dachkantine Zurich, Paradiso + Sugar Factory Amsterdam, Robert Johnson Offenbach, Culture Box Copenhagen, Fabric London, The Ape Manchester, and in festivals such as Mutek Mexico + Montreal, Nuits Sonores Lyon, Transmusicales Rennes, Chicobum Torino, Paysages Electroniques Lille, Popkomm + Transmediale Berlin, Elevate Graz, DEMF Detroit...
Leonardo da la Posso:
Leonardo de la Posso has been involved in New York City's underground music scene since 1991, first as a dancer at some of the hottest underground clubs in NYC at the time (Red Zone, Quicks, Soul Kitchen, Tunnel, Mars, Japans, Engine Room, Sound Factory) By the mid nineties he had taken up the incurable habit of Djing and amassing a library of vinyl to be proud of. Lenny's name is on several of these releases as he has designed for a slew of labels from around the world. He has also started several successful weekly and bi-monthly parties (Composition, MILQ ~pre robots~, Rebel-also one of the resident DJ's for the successful PHONO events), where he DJ's alongside numerous respected international and local artists in the electronic underground music scene. His motivation lies in the pursuit to positively engage the audience with the most current and obscure sounds of today, as well as yesterday. Never forget your past or you will never know where to go in the future.
Currently he started a record label coming out of Brooklyn, NYC, called Thema. The essence of Thema is to create a multi-artist platform to help cultivate the scene here in NYC and and its presence in the underground international circuit; to establish a label that focus' on the progression of forward thinking electronic music with like minded individuals from around the world.
Also gracing the decks will be our resident DJs:
Sameer: After a successful stint as a San Francisco Internet entrepreneur, in the late 90's Sameer started his techno career producing the Urban Wasteland renegade parties in abandoned naval weapons warehouses, half-built buildings, under freeways, atop cranes, and in container and train yards around the Port of Oakland. In 2001 he traveled throughout central and eastern Europe and played at parties both small and large in cities as varied as Belgrade, Serbia, Varazdin, Croatia, and Torun, Poland. Heightened security after 9/11 made it difficult to continue, so he put his records into storage Since then he's migrated to New York and resurrected his DJ career, but not his criminal one. He is great at getting people moving to his unique mix of music that is both relaxing and alien at the same time.
Lisa Fox: Lisa has spent most of her decade-long DJ career on the west coast in San Francisco and Seattle, playing techno, house, electro, minimal, and experimental music for the underground communities. With a focus on event production, she has produced numerous events pairing together audio and visual artists under the name Subliminal Broadcast, which was born from a show she produced on Groovetech, one of the first Internet radio stations. She's played at parties large and small alongside world-re-known artists, at intimate bar venues, clubs, outdoor festivals and large industrial warehouses. A true music addict, Lisa has been collecting records and digital music since grade school, and has promoted the development of peer-to-peer technology since 1999. Currently Lisa is focusing her time on audio and video production, working on producing an album and creating music videos for herself and other independent artists.
