Bastard Batty Bass, the explosion of genre crunchin, energetic, deep and dirty-dance-til-you-drop night moves for a one-off all-nighter ultimate warehouse experience.
One of the most talked about nights in the capital steps out its intimate home at The Star of Bethnal Green for one night only, it's all about bringing the people fierce new flavours, beats and bass for batty shake! A club night to dance your ass off to dirty bass lines from the early bleeps of house to the new york deepness, touching on techno's sexy bottom end, flirting with dubstep, right through to jungle, with Mama and Chickaboo ready to touch your inner core. It feels like a house party but looks like a music video, with a rare, diverse and energetic crowd. This in turn has spawned a record label, highly accredited art work, a clothing range, podcast and website, bringing the Batty Bass gospel to the masses.
Joining the Batty Bass Crew; Hannah Holland, MC Chickaboo and Mama are the unmistakable Martinez Brothers. These guys are the definition of new blood. Steve is 20, Chris is 17 - not even old enough to get into most the clubs he plays. The boys' father was a veteran of the disco era and New York clubs like the Paradise Garage and the young brothers found a home at the legendary New York club Shelter. Along with musicians like Dennis Ferrer, Jerome Sydenham, Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos, the Martinez Brothers are helping introduce house crowds to more techno-oriented sounds and vice verse. Watch them behind the decks: they don't stop moving. They're practically climbing over each other as records flow together, one brother cueing up a track, the other EQing, forearms intertwined, heads bobbing in unison. It's amazing to watch. It's even more amazing to hear.
Hannah Holland is a product of all the best bits of London club culture from the last decade; all the most innovative and exciting parties, scenes, movements, subcultures and music genres condensed into one frenetic curly haired DJ. This star has been on the rise since her residency at east end institution Trailer Trash and is equally at home stealing the show in big rooms and festivals as she is capturing hearts in grimy basements and warehouse raves. Her unique DJ sets combine all the best bits of deep sleazy techno, electro, house, dubstep and more - all driven by her love of bass! She has made a habit of rocking dancefloors for respected parties like Bugged Out, The Warehouse Project, Fabric, Ibiza’s Amnesia and Serbia’s notorious Exit Festival. Working hard in the studio Hannah has releases out on Mike Monday’s Playtime label and remixes for artists like VV Brown, Yo Majesty, Worthy and Yankee Zulu.
MC Chickaboo is the leading female MC in dance music, starting out in 92 working raves such as Fantasia, Dreamscape, Jungle Fever plus working with some of the world’s best: DJ Bailey, Goldie and the legendry Afrika Bambaata. Working with ease within many different styles of music, MC Chickaboo has provided vocal skills for DJ's and producers as diverse as Cosmo, Lady Miss Keir, live percussionists, saxophonists, and is working with Rennie Pilgrim as part of the TCR Allstars and Jazzie B as part of Soul 2 Soul soundsystem. ?
Mama has created a unique style of hard cut, biting lyrics to sing over tunes picked out of Hannah’s bouncin’ energetic sets. Mama sings real songs about sex, obsession, depravity, bitchiness and abortions. She has taken her raw bedroom-produced musical antics to stages across Europe with her previous rock band Mama Shamone, sharing stages with Bloc Party, Dizzee Rascal and Amy Winehouse from the filithiest clubs to world class festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival and Fusion Festival. Batty Bass resident Miss Bailey, whose eclectic warm house, afro beat, funk and tech grooves warm up the dancefloor perfectly.
