Hot Blood is the first in a series of monthly parties produced by Lovebox where the focus runs the gamut of ‘dance’, be it disco, house, techno, new wave, post punk, funk, dub-step or the all encompassing re-edit culture.

Each party will showcase an artist, a label, an album, a shop, a sound, a region, a country or anything that allows a focus on a ‘movement’ and the ranges of influences and influencers in the multi-room space of the Relentless Garage.

The first party, a collaboration with Electric Minds, will serve as the launch party for The Arthur Russell Tribute Album which will include a screening of the celebrated Matt Wolf documentary ‘Wild Combination’, introduced by Tim Lawrence, with a number of live bands and DJs including Killer Whale (Live) who will perform their contribution to the album project.

27th November 2009 9pm until 4am

The Relentless Garage
20-22 Highbury Corner (opposite Highbury & Islington tube Station)
N5 1RD

Screening of Matt Wolf’s “Wild Combination” from 7pm. Introduced by Tim Lawrence with a reading from his new Arthur Russell biography

Fri, 15 Jan 2010This review couldn't be further from the reality. A great album from start to finish.

Wed, 23 Dec 2009Maybe you are the modern version of Arthur Russell that Daniel is looking for. I'm of the view that the purists/record collectors/dj's are actually strangling good music by hoarding the good unknown stuff until they are short of a few bob. Then they put out a bootleg so everyone can enjoy it, whilst cashing in big time. All at the original artists expense. Now if that isn't bad Karma? None of the artists on this album have sampled as much as a nano second of Arthur's original music (As far as I... More

Wed, 23 Dec 2009The more I listen to this album, the more I fail to understand some of the negative comments on this thread. The genesis of the project, the support it's received from AR's estate, the musicians involved and the positive feedback from the upper echelons of the musical fraternity are important: they go to show that this is a heavyweight endeavour and not some cynical, clinical cash-in. The fact that some of the 'purists' may be unconvinced doesn't detract from that. Accepting that taste is... More

Tue, 22 Dec 2009Gary Darling.... This album isn't for you. It probably wasn't intended for you in the first place my dear. You already know (or think you know) the music of Arthur Russell. This is for those people that have heard the tunes being played out and liked them... bought the CD and then.... learned something about Arthur Russell and low and behold gone out and bought some of his music. I'm beginning to think that all people in dance music these days are a bunch of posers. That means you too Gary Plant

ummm after reading the review I feel like i have to justify this album a bit as I feel its a bit harsh. most of the tracks were created by a full band so there was nothing simple in re-creating Russell's music, there arent many producers or musicians that can !! Rather than sampling or editing over 15 musicians spent 6 months recreating their own covers; just because they start with a beat doesn't mean they are clinical. RA have failed to mention that the original musicians... More
