SPACEMACHINE
Citizen Kane
Dennis Citizen Kane is an iconic figure in NYC’s downtown scene. A former disco and old school buyer for the infamous A1 Records, he now runs the Adult Section Party with Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani.
Dennis is widely recognised through his other party outlet, the Deep End party at APT, which had diverse guests as Nicky Siano, DJ Harvey, Kool Herc, Force of Nature, Danny Krivit, Gerry Rooney etc.
On the music releases front, Kane runs the Disque Sinthomme label, which has seen releases music by Nick Chacona, Professor Genius, Silver, Beatbroker, Smith & Mudd, Richard Sen and the legendary Sal Principato from 80s punk band Liquid Liquid, many of which have been charted throughout Europe and Japan.
Apart from releasing music on his own label, Kane has had edits out on the Moton label (Diesel & Dave Jarvis’ imprint)!
Richard Sen / Padded Cell
Richard is the guy behind Padded Cell, Bronx Dogs and the Mixed Blood label. He is notorious for being one of the first Graffiti artists of the 80s UK scene, but now more so for his scores of incredible remixes and a couple of amazing compilations, like the ‘Powercuts’ electro one from a couple of years back. Richard has DJ-ed everywhere over the last two decades, and has recently started working on solo remix projects, released an album on DC Recordings and remixed LCD Soundsystem and Black Devil Disco Club, Cosmo Vitelli, as well as labels like Tirk. Ultimately, Richard has impeccable taste and a ridiculous record collection, via his 10+ year stint behind London’s Record Exchange shop, where all 2nd hand records pass his hands first.
Pete Herbert
Pete is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most traveled working DJ’s of the disco scene, literally playing at all the top clubs around the globe week in week out, from Europe to Russia to Brazil to the US to Australia and Indonesia this year alone. He plenty of releases aka ‘Reverso 68’, Frontera, LSB and Pete Herbert on such labels like: Eskimo, Disco Deviance, Kompakt, Dfa, Maxi Disc, Rekids and Smalltown Supersound under his belt and his finger on the pulse when it comes to edit and remix action. For those old enough to remember, Mister Herbert also used to run the infamous Atlas Records, probably the best independent music shop London had in the 90s, which has also contributed to his vast musical knowledge and good connections in the music scene.
More recently, Pete’s been working with Johnny Chingas in London on reworks for the label Spacemachine Recordings, and their party outlet SPACEMACHINE, which has seen guests such as the Idjut Boys, Glimmers, Phoreski, Mo Morris (A Mountain Of One) and Toby Tobias join their monthly party.
Johnny ‘Chingas’ Hiller
Johnny’s exposure to first exposure to music was through his father, a jazz musician who worked with Klaus Doldinger (Passport), and then got involved in disco music in the mid eighties, when he started to put together monthly mix tapes in Cologne, Germany. Since then Johnny has lived in Hong Kong and spent time in Shanghai, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Melbourne, a few of months each time, digging for vinyl. Coincidentally, whilst studying in Beijing in the early nineties, he organized the first ever ‘rave’ party in the People’s Republic, with punters turning up with their sleeping bags! Ever since, Johnny’s been running parties like the infamous Lasermagnetic (with co-hort Neil Thornton), which helped kick start the recent disco revival and featured many of the scene’s DJ’s for the first time in the UK, like Lindstroem, Beppe Loda & Typhoon, Dr. Nishimura from Discosessions Japan, Woolfy, I-f, Chromatics, Brennan Green, Loud-e, Strangefruit, Kamome Soundsystem, Rahaan and many more.
Over the past years, specialist Lasermagnetic parties were held in cities like Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Shanghai, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney and Izmir. Johnny has DJ-ed at credible international clubs like Tape Club, Cookies, Fabric, Plastic People, Nouveau Casino, Air, Yellow, Revolver, Club 97 & Café Otto. Johnny currently hosts a fortnightly radioshow, The Tropical Spacemachine on Deepfrequency, which feature interviews and mixes with international guests like Lovefingers, Tako, Albion, Rahaan, Glimmers, Hey Convict!, Lee Douglas and more. He still runs the Lasermagnetic parties, which now focus on bank holiday specials.
