Way back in 1994 Ian Williams and Rennie Pilgrem started to put on parties in London . The first one, for fashion designer Mark Bartholomew, took place in an open-air car park in the heart of Soho .

What made these parties different was that the music policy was ‘open’. So you could hear electro, hip-hop, drum n bass, breaks, house and live acts…on the same night. Some of the djs who strutted their stuff at these parties were: STEREO MCS, MATTHEW B, ADAM FREELAND, TAYO, ELLIS D, TOM MIDDLETON, REV MILO SPEEDWAGON, HEADRILLAZ, FREQ NASTY, BLIM, T POWER, PAUL ARNOLD, HYPER, SHUT UP AND DANCE, SKINNY DEL MARK, VINI, CRAIG RICHARDS, MC EQ, KEVIN BEBER, MR ELEPHANT, WOLFMAN, TERRY SLOGAN.

Ian & Rennie went on to found Friction (which defined the Nu Skool scene) with Tayo and Adam Freeland. Friction helped launch the careers of many of the scene’s leading djs.

And so to the present, Mashed is proud to be back, with the same musical recipe. From the live indie-folk of The Walking Birds, through to the original electro of A1 People, via the Old Rave of Rhythm Section to NU Rave and general funkiness.
