Sweeping all before it, with a strident “Work Hard! Play Hard!” ethos, club night One Party State is already over one year into the implementation of its five year plan... to provide the best night out for London’s downtrodden workers, at Camden’s Barfly. And it’s paying off – the venue has been packed each time!
Now we’re back, brighter and better than ever, thanks to the upgraded interior & facilities at Barfly. There’ll be new lights, beefed-up sound, new seating, revamped toilets on both floors and - for this event - a 4am licence!
Under threat of exile to the musical gulag, the DJs on both floors have been ordered to play their best possible sets by our Musical Commissars. There’ll also be Party Operatives moving through the venue to check that people are enjoying themselves.
Farm hands and factory workers (and their modern, office-based equivalents) are all invited... The clubbing Bourgeoisie and their lackeys are not! We are vehemently anti-socialite!
UPSTAIRS, prepare for Revolutionary Modern Guitar Music For A Utopian Future from resident DJ Ed Wilder (Club NME) and guest DJs:
The Collectable Few (live) - This lot will shortly be releasing their debut single Missing Out on Salvia/XL. Featuring veterans of other hard-working bands, this new act have have impressed with their “raffishly raucous riffs” according to Don’t Panic Magazine and create “epic teary nuevo-Britpop for heartbroken indie kids” according to NME. Comparisons have been made to early Cure and Blur but we hear an agreeably anthemic streak in their polished indie pop.
Victor Carballeira (Skalextric, Tenerife) - Victor has been instrumental in turning the Tenerife’s music scene into something pretty exciting with his Scaletrix club and the Canarias @ The Hotel Festival, which takes over a huge 1950s hotel complex. Victor’s DJ sets take in everything from the MC5 to The Arctic Monkeys, weaving into dancey territory with CSS and Chk Chk Chk. Expect Victor to storm the floor with his own revisionist take on our revolutionary music policy!
Ed Wilder (Club NME) - A man with a vision, Ed has played at the top of the bt tower and to massive crowds at v2008. He's also the regular DJ at Corrupt's cutting-edge live nights at Barfly and also plays at Club NME at Koko every week.
DOWNSTAIRS, get stuck into Decadent Electro ‘n’ Eclectic Sounds from New Wave to New Rave:
Snitch DJs - they have recently had a green light on their first official Wild Palms Remix on Popular Recordings and quite a banger it is too picking up plays from DJs and Bloggers around the world. They have consistently smashed it every time they play for us
Jeff Automatic (Transmission) - Jeff is resident at Koko’s massive Club NME night and, when he’s not there, is to be heard around the UK and Europe DJing with the likes of Autokratz and Deadmau5 (at Reading 09, on the Dance Dtage) in cities such Barcelona, Berlin, Ghent, Valencia, Bratislava, Perugia and Rome...
Gerald Van der Hint (Meat Market, Vienna) - As chief of Meat Market, Vienna's hottest electro/techno night - based in not one but two clubs: Badeschiif, the club on a boat, and Pratersauna, the club in an old sex sauna - Gerald has carved a niche as the city’s number one dj, who straddles the worlds of both electro and techno. His style takes in indie remixes and harder stuff from producers such as Umek and Afrojack.
Campari Safari DJs (One Party State / Meat Market) - this crack team of party starters count Secret Garden Party as a fixture, as well as Italian hot spot Urban In Perugia. As residents at Meat Market in Vienna, they bring neu disco to the city of Mozart. The djs in the team are selected for their ability to craft fantastical journeys through dance music, taking in disco to acid house to electro old and new, with some pop gems.
