Saturn Never Sleeps was originally created by music producer King Britt and multimedia artist Rucyl for two performances specifically dedicated to the music and sound of Sun-Ra. Inspired by the works of classic electronic innovators like Herbie Hancock, Raymond Scott and Delia Derbyshire, the experiment began July 2009 and continues every month Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia. From December 2009, SNS is monthly at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn.
A celebration of the electric sound phenomenon and all that inspires it, Saturn Never Sleeps combines audio visual micro-components into a thought altering world of sight and sound. Live musicians of acoustic and electronic inventions are curated as objects of art, coming together to create a dimensional environment of delectable oscillations and bleeps for the modern audiophile. Guest appearances by today’s visual and sonic innovators stretch the boundaries of genre, rhythm, and concept.
DieMultimedia-Künstlerin Rucyl erklärt die Show folgendermaßen: "The ideafor 'Saturn Never Sleeps' came out of a performance the Institute forContemporary Art at Penn this past July where King took micro edits ofSun Ra to re-interpret Sun Ra's philosophy of experimentation and playin jazz music. We wanted to continue the tradition of improvisation inblack music that has started to dwindle a bit in today's mainstreammusic, in order to keep true to our great history of groundbreakingartistry."
