SATURDAY 19th AUGUST.
You know the name, you know the night, Bootleg is now adding a second event to its repertoire – a new night at Melbourne's
Bootleg is an event, an overload, a revolution, a freak scene. Always extraordinary, and never average. Nowhere else will you get live bands, live art and visuals, wicked rock DJs and a mish-mash of kaleidoscope kids, burlesque baby dolls and scenesters all in the one place, at the one time.
Saturday, August 19th sees Bootleg kicking off its newest night with bands British India, The Gingers and City Of Fire, plus DJ's Gringo, Manni, REM, Gobshite and Dirty Moota playing back to back Indie, rock, post punk, electro and smash up gems all night.
No venue suits Bootleg better than
. With its laneway entrance, multiple rooms and dark corners it's a true taste of the underground.
The Bohemian vibe will really pick up in the summer months when the rooftop level opens up and brings a whole new element to Bootleg: drinks on the roof as the sun goes down. Word is that soon a 24 hour license for Bootleg will be in place and then you know your nights will never be the same…
Since their dramatic debut in Melbourne in 2004 BRITISH INDIA has been a name on people's lips. Their debut single "Outside 109", a limited edition vinyl only release, was on air one hour after being taken in to JJJ.
Wheels started turning and the offer came to work with legendary songwriter and producer Harry Vanda (Easybeats, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo). So just a year from finishing school and playing their first gigs and they found themselves in Flashpoint studio, playing Harry Vanda's guitars, meeting music business legends and soaking up history.
The resulting EP "We Are the Counter Culture" has garnered strong reviews and strong airplay.
The band has since played every major summer festival (Big Day Out, Homebake, Meredith Music Festival, and Pyramid Festival) and attracted many curious music fans. The response from the converted fans has set more tongues wagging.
A recent tour with The Psychedelic Furs and Ratcat has seen the band's live performance move to another level.
To quote Kathy McCabe from the Daily Telegraph, British India are "Hotter than Vindaloo".
Look out for their forthcoming full length album….
"The Gingers are a three-piece friendship who share the love for making music and playing live shows together. We formed at our high school and started ditching classes to get our rock n roll fix. Since forming a year and a half ago we've played nearly a hundred shows and that fix has become an addiction" – The Gingers
Lets avoid the cliché band biographies and cheesy band wrap ups. All you really need to know about 'City on Fire' is that they are one of the most entertaining live bands in the Melbourne scene, and that is one of the great aspects they are accredited for. After spending 2005 developing their live act and sound, playing with such bands as: Silverstein (CAN), I Killed The Prom Queen, Something With Numbers, Angela's Dish, Behind Crimson Eyes (and the list goes on), this five-piece rock outfit are out to turn a few heads. So forget what you know. Armed with their 3 track demo 'City on Fire' is one band to look out for in 2006.
Principal Entertainment presents a night of music, madness and mayhem at the launch of the new Bootleg night at Geddes lane. New venue, new vibe, same Bootleg.
