ROOTIKAL BANK HOLIDAY SPECIAL WITH GUESTS ABA SHANT I & ADRIAN SHERWOOD...

Rootikal welcomes you to an extended bank holiday session on Sunday April 4th. We will be running until 2.30 am with very special guests Aba Shanti I and Adrian Sherwood.

Anyone that has been to Carnival, University of Dub or the Blue Note sessions in the mid 90s, will be familiar with the heavy spiritual music played in an Aba Shanti I selection. From the early days when he deejayed with Jah Tubby's sound, through to recording with his brother Blood Shanti, and to playing with his live band. The Shanti-Ites, one thing has been constant and that's the unique vibe that he brings to the dance. We very much look forward to that vibe returning to Rootikal.

Up before Aba Shanti I will be the legendary Adrian Sherwood, who has been involved with reggae music since the 70s, first with his Carib Gems label and then with Hitrun. In the 80s he produced for his On-U Sound label, working with the likes of Bim Sherman and Prince Far I, and more recently he has just produced a new album with Lee 'Scratch' Perry. The man has history.

Of course the Rootikal residents will also be in the house, with Earl Gateshead and David Hill playing in the basement before Adrian and Aba Shanti I. Upstairs in the lounge guests Terry Farley and Diesel join Stuart Patterson, Mr Faso and Nick B and will be playing classic rockers, revival and dub.

Together they will be spinning a rootikal selection covering all bases of righteous music - no slackness only positivity.

The session kicks off early in the lounge at 2pm, where you can expect the usual quality Sunday roasts to be joined by a special jerk chicken, and the basement will run from 6.30pm.

2pm-2.30am - FREE before 5pm and £5 thereafter.
