Prince Language bio:
Prince Language is one of New York City’s premiere underground DJ’s and producers. His acclaimed remix work for artists like LCD Soundsystem (DFA), The Rapture, MGMT, Lindstrøm, The Juan Maclean (DFA), Armand Van Helden. Joakim, Editors, and Sons And Daughters, as well numerous re-edits for the mysterious Editions Disco label have earned his tracks a place in the sets of DJ’s as diverse as Lindstrøm, DJ Harvey, Tiga, Carl Craig, James Murphy, Rub N Tug, and Gilles Peterson, and have made him one of the most in-demand remixers in dance music today. His series of mixes of left-field disco, house, electro, rock, and whatever else he feels like entitled The No Comprendo have also been some of the most talked about mixes of the last few years. In addition numerous remix projects, he is currently at work on the forthcoming debut album of Prince Language & The No Comprendo as well as a mix CD for the downtown cult label aNYthing.
Born and raised in Chicago, Prince Language’s diverse musical sensibility and mixing style are strongly influenced by that city’s rich musical tradition, especially its heritage as the birthplace of House music. Raised on a steady musical diet of tapes of disco and house legends Ron Hardy and the Hot Mix 5, Language began DJing at Chicago warehouse parties and soon found himself holding down numerous residencies throughout the city. Moving to New York in 1999, he soon met Philadelphia DJ Rich Medina, and together the pair established the now-legendary Stoned Soul parties. In 2002 he formed NegroClash with DJs Lindsey and Duane, and in 2004 the Village Voice named NegroClash the “Best party in Manhattan to dance sweatily to smart music.” The crew’s commitment to highlighting electronic sounds in black music brought a host of legendary DJ’s to their residency at New York’s APT, including Afrika Bambaataa, Juan Atkins, Marshall Jefferson, Red Alert, Fab 5 Freddy, DJ Spinna, and Larry Heard/Mr. Fingers. Renowned for his eclectic yet coherent sets, Language has also shared bills with DJ’s and bands including Metro Area, DJ Harvey, Derrick May, Francois K, Theo Parrish, DJ Premiere, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, !!!/Chk Chk Chk, Massive Attack, Interpol, The Strokes, The Rapture and LCD Soundsystem.
