About Tom Trago
Tom Trago is part of the new school Amsterdam producers. He is also an accomplished dj and is the Trago in Yuro Trago.
Raised on a steady diet of hip-hop and jazz, Tom Trago (1983) entered of study of contemporary music when he entered his twenties. Around this time he was also mentored his way into the Dutch club scene by a well-known local dj. Trago learned fast and his own dj career kicked off in no time.
Over the past five years he has played many clubs and parties both locally as internationally. His diverse music taste has made him appreciated in different scenes; from a block party to a rave…people get down to his sound. He is / has been resident for Kindred Spirits parties, Dekmantel parties, Parra Soundsystem and Rush Hour. He also initiated the 08Bar, a project where producers get linked up to each other and jam live to an audience.
Tom debuted with his 2006 single “Live With The BBQ”, which made it to Bob Sinlar’s Playboy Mansion CD. Since then he has released some singles and remixes which are as diverse as his dj sets.
With his studies finished and with ending some of his dj residencies, Trago has made way for himself to focus on his production. He spent most of last year in his studio to shape his sound. The first outcome of this since last years ‘Primary Roots’ (as Yuro Trago) is his new album ‘Voyage Direct’, which is an ode to his love for disco and house.
This year will see him promoting his new album as well as working on more production, both solo as well as collaborations. In the pipeline are a disco project with San Proper, a visit to the Carl Craig studios in Detroit to work on new Yuro Trago material and remixing other peoples material (watch out for his Phillipe Zdar remix on Cassius Records).
Over the past twelve years Rush Hour has cultivated itself into an institute for electronic music and a haven for music lovers worldwide. The reputation Rush Hour has built mainly comes from the fact that Rush Hour first and foremost focuses on music they totally believe in and have a love for. The Rush Hour family has a strong sense of pride in always working with and feeding off that impulse and faith, rather than working for the mighty dollar or bottom line. Rush Hour has always been this way. Late 1997 saw the opening of the recordstore and mailorder, which manifested the very beginning of the company. Initially importing many obscure records from around the world then later exporting similar Dutch records to overseas companies, the distribution wing had evolved by two years later, in 1999. This set up eventually led to the start of the label, which saw its first release just before the millennium. The past few years saw various releases, mostly 12”s, from artists all over the world in all different genres and directions. What they all seem to have in common is an electronic groove that is almost impossible to convey with words but has been, over time, coined ‘The Rush Hour flavor’. Over the last few years the label has grown stronger than ever, with classic releases by locals such as Aardvarck, Comtron, Kid Sublime, Rednose Distrikt, San Proper & Tom Trago as well as releases by international artists such as Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir, Carl Craig, Daniel Wang, Kenny Larkin, Liquid Liquid, Recloose, Rick Wilhite and Rick Wade. The label is also known for hosting compilations, such as Beat Dimensions compiled by Cinnaman and Jay Scarlett as well as making catalogue available again from the famed Chicago house labels DJ International and Trax. Over the years a lot of record stores have come and gone. The RH store and mail- order has been steadily growing, mainly die to its diverse and unique catalogue of vinyl, cds and merchandise. Wherever Rush Hour goes you can be sure its not driven by hype and/or money. It’s a company from the heart and soul. A passion that won’t stop. For more info www.rushhour.nl
