DJS from MIND ON FIRE + WOTGODFORGOT //
VISUALS FROM CYCLOPTIC // LIVE ART // BBQ + SMOOTHIE BAR

Mind on Fire and wotgodforgot are super excited to be teaming up again after a series of successful collaborations, with an eclectic and varied lineup from local and international artists. As well as a visual installation from Cycloptic, Live Art from onefiveeight, and a smoothie bar and bbq, we are proud to present…

KELPE
(London - DC Recordings / Mind on Fire Records)
http://myspace.com/kelpemusic

With influences ranging from the bleeps & bass of classic Warp artists to the spectral folk of John Renbourn, and the minimalism of Steve Reich + Harmonia to the percussive space-scapes of Tortoise + Do Make Say Think, the diversity of the music that inspires Kelpe finds reflection in his own sonic adventures. With a number of fantastic releases on DC Recordings, and some upcoming plans with Mind on Fire Records, we’re really excited to bring Kelpe back up north, do not miss!

THE LAZE
(Liverpool – Deep Time)
http://myspace.com/thelaze

The Laze are an incredible genre hopping experimental six-piece from Merseyside way, and we’ve been trying to get them over for quite some time. They’ve played with the likes of Acid Mother’s Temple, Polar Bear and Rolo Tomassi to name a few, and for Sounds From The Other City they will be playing 2009's Spacetime Fabric Conditioner LP.

SIRCONICAL
(Manchester - Twisted Nerve)
http://myspace.com/sirconical

Making the kind of beautiful electronica that takes in various sounds and ideas whilst nodding a head towards more hip-hop sensibilities, Sirconical has been a favourite of ours for quite some time. The live band line up integrates a drummer and bassist to spectacular effect and is not to be missed. Look out for Sirconical on an upcoming release on Mind on Fire Records.

THE LEGEND OF THE 7 BLACK TENTACLES
(Shefield – Bivalve)
http://myspace.com/7blacktentacles

This ever growing 8 piece band performs a woven tale of epic proportion, spanning a seamless trail and sewing disjointed genres until they make perfect sense. The 4 year old project unites the strengths of live experimental hip hop with post rock, classical music, metal, dub and jazz amongst other elements in a unique stew - performed fully live without relying on loops, backing tracks or any programming.

"This experimental clash of classical music and hip hop works brilliantly, and their live shows are fantastic to watch, combining jazz shronking with edgy beats, live sampling and scratch." - The Metro

IO MONADE STANCA
(Italy – Africantape)
http://myspace.com/iomonadeestanca

Hailing from Piedmont in Italy, Io Monade Stanca are, well... bonkers. Students of Alfred Jarry’s absurdist College of Patapyhsics, Edoardo Baima (vocals, guitar and bass), Matteo Romano (drums), Nicolas Joseph Roncea (guitar and bass) do something to rock music that makes it sound not quite like anything you'll have heard before. Coupling lolloping drums and resonating guitars with smatterings of strained vocals and grotesque cries, this is music that is at once idiot and savant. This is their first visit to the UK.

LEVENSHULME BICYCLE ORCHESTRA
(Manchester – Concrete Moniker)
http://levenshulmebicycleorchestra.com

The group operates in an as yet undefined area between intuiative ritualised musical theatrical performance and shared collective improvising around musical and lyrical themes developed by all members of the group.

"As for the Levenshulme Bicycle Orchestra (drums, bass, vocals, overhead projector, post-it notes, CDRS and bicycle), it is beside the point to analyse with hindsight. Unrelentingly experimental, their performance was visual and theatrcial as much musical, embodying an almost Dadaist approach to spontaneous creativity which was child-like in its exuberance, playfulness and wandering sense of purpose" Student Direct

GO LEBANON
http://myspace.com/golebanon

“Go Lebanon are just SO the buzz around town, darling, they are just out of control. Described at last year's In The City as “Dollar signs, baby!”, “This sounds like a lot of things I've heard on XFM - I LOVE IT!!!” and “The only thing that took my mind off the fact that this shitty festival isn't SXSW”. GL have been carving a niche in the shallow cesspit that is Manchester's Indie scene for what seems like millennia, having been known to party until 2am before grabbing their inhalers and getting to bed to avoid breaking out in a rash - these truly are the wild boys of rock.”

After a brief hiatus in 2009, Go Lebanon have returned this year with a new lineup and an evolving sound… loud bits, fast bits, quiet bits, slow bits, look out for new recordings soon.

BORLAND
http://myspace.com/borlandsongs

Borland is a sometimes two-piece, sometimes four-piece live electronica band, and with a number of self released recordings as well as a regular podcast, they’re one of the most exciting acts to come out of Manchester recently. Often glitchy, often droney, and a favourite of ours for some time, Borland are definitely ones to watch.

In their own words... "melodramatic synths crashing over breakbeat madness punctuated with sliced vocals from famous historical figures, and little girls / new wave sex rave / four on the floor ambient hardcore"
