Diskotopia, Numbers Tokyo, Seclusiasis
Off The Hook is a dubstep, UK funky and bass event that in it's current genesis, brings together a hand-picked selection of resident DJs from long term Japanese events, Numbers Tokyo, Back To Chill, Diskotopia, and Pandemon.
Although rebooted this year, the event was originally started in 2001 in Glasgow by DJ P.O.L. Style and Nok La Rok, with both resident DJs later joining forces with other music-loving Glaswegians to start Numbers, the event (and now label) that has brought names like Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and more to the international electronic music table.
The event has been reborn in it's third incarnation to give the people of Tokyo a fresh, local, underground, yet affordable showcase of the hottest new music from around the globe, paired with the best sounds from the last 30 years.
The resident DJs between them have releases on labels including Seclusiasis, T&A and Tiger Bass, and have collectively remixed or had tunes remixed by Slugabed, Starkey, Kid 606, Kotchy, Drums of Death, DJ Donna Summer, Darling Farah, Rob Threezy, 80Kidz, Gaines and more. Furthermore between them they have DJed everywhere from New York to London, Philadelphia & Hong Kong, with such artists as Grandmaster Flash, M.I.A., Modeselektor, LCD Soundsystem, DJ Funk, Hot Chip, Ivan Smagghe, DJ Sega, Optimo, DJ Zinc... and literally countless others.
The result is a reasonably priced, early weekday evening, gimmick-free event, putting more of an emphasis on the quality of the DJ’s track selection & mixing sensibility, rather than the DJ’s ability to look cool in a photo, sport this season’s trendy eye-wear or be as new to the game as possible.
