DJ/Producer Aaron LaCrate
is the founder of Milkcrate Records. His style of music draws from a variety of club styles, primarily ghetto-tech, dirty rap, grime, electro, and bass music. Though he'd been active as a DJ in Baltimore since the 1990s, LaCrate didn't begin to make a name for himself internationally until 2006 with the Bmore Gutter Music mix album on Milkcrate Records. Also that year, he released the Blow Remix EP, which featured a number of raps by Amanda Blank and co-productions by Debonair Samir, and remixed Lily Allen's hit single "Smile." LaCrate subsequently toured as a DJ with Allen and in 2007 teamed with DJ/producer Mark Ronson for a series of YoYo club nights in Love Club New York City. Now he's back in Love Wednesday May 19th to celebrate the release of the "Godly Collabo," a new T-shirt designed by Milkcrate for Rakim + J. Beckman, available exclusively at DrJays.com.
The 'Godly Collabo' is super dope because it represents three eras of streetwear legends-Milkcrate x Rakim x Janette Beckman-all style originators," says Milkcrate Records founder (and frequent Rakim collaborator), DJ Aaron LaCrate.
The event kicks off with a private roundtable discussion of hip-hop and street fashion moderated by LaCrate and featuring documentary photographer Janette Beckman and the God MC (Rakim) himself. It will be filmed exclusively for DrJays website.
Later in the evening, Rakim will take to the stage at Love nightclub in the Village for a rare performance, alongside DJ Clark Kent (a.k.a "God's favorite MC") and new Milkcrate Records act Mz Streamz (a.k.a "Baltimore's Club Princess"). Mz Streamz will also be celebrating the release of her new mixtape, It's Alive.
"Wow-the God MC plus Baltimore's finest female rapper Mz Streamz and my man DJ Aaron LaCrate-what more do you need for a great party?" says Clark Kent.
