Line-up /King Most, The Whooligan
This Saturday, Sloane welcomes two of the Bay Area's hottest young talent as King Most and The Whooligan step behind the decks. I heard King Most killed it in NY this past weekend and I can't wait to hear which sonic treats he'll be dropping on us Saturday night.
(Om Records / 40Love)
“Futuristicsoulsexyghettotechtronicboombap” is the only way to describe the beguiling musical potions of the Whooligan. He is a musical chemist, concocting beats as a producer and experimenting with their reactive characteristics as a DJ. The tools of choice for his brand of science are a wantonly obese record collection and a deep love for every soul he touches on and off the dancefloor. His laboratory varies: one day he’s locked away in the studio composing musical Monet’s and creating innovating mixes with music from across the globe; the next, he’s likely to be found spinning and collaborating with the world’s hottest artists.
National tours sponsored by industry powerhouses such as MTV, Myspace, Island Def Jam and Sony, and performing with artists such as Vikter Duplaix, Kid Sister, Lupe Fiasco, and Diplo, to name a few, have secured the Whooligan’s standing as one of the most hard-working and respected selectors on the West Coast. He sets the tone for every party he spins with a refreshingly new and old school style. To witness the Whooligan is to be invited into his world for a musical journey that simultaneously entertains and enlightens, indulging the senses and issuing only one command: dance. Whether on the turntables at any club, event or national music conference, or in his production element generating smooth, sample-laden beats, the Whooligan puts the same amount of verve and finesse into his craft and executes the roles of both DJ and Producer with flawless expertise. The beats and scratches in his sets are methodically engineered to keep crowds moving like the pistons of a well-oiled engine.
To date, the Whooligan has appeared as a DJ or producer on many projects, recently: 40Love BANGERANG!, Keelay and Zaire Ridin’ High (MYX Label), Jesse Boykins III The Beauty Created (Nomadic Music) and Mark Farina's chart-topper: Mushroom Jazz, Vol. 6 (OM Records), in addition to his own recent mixtapes: WMC2010 Preview (broken-beat, house) Deep Empyrean (deep soulful house), Talk To Me (soul/r&b), The Star Gazers (electronica/hip hop) and Up Up and Away: The Spacetrumentals (downtempo/instrumental hip hop). The Whooligan is a proud member of San Francisco based group, 40Love and the Om Records family.
