Kev Obrien (Stranjjur NYC, Proton Radio, Deep Vein Audio - NYC)
Kev Obrien is a man on a mission. Having spent many years engulfed in Florida's club and rave scene, Kev recently transplanted from the Sunshine State to the concrete jungles of NYC; and he hasn't looked back, or come up for air since.
Donning many caps within the EDM-world, Kev divides his time between DJing, producing, event coordinating, writing music reviews, and working as a strategic/A&R consultant for various labels and EDM-related websites.
On September 18th, 2009, Stranjjur NYC was born, as a joint partnership with fellow-Stranjjur, NYC-vet and former Balance Record Pool member, Billy Disciple. These now monthly events focus on bringing up-and-coming, globally-renowned house music artists into NYC, and thus far Stranjjur NYC is introducing artists such as: Milton Jackson, Spencer Parker, Pezzner, Alex Niggemann, Till von Sein, Carlo Lio, Audio soul Project, Bearweasel and more.
November 2009 also saw Kev successfuly securing his first production signing, with Sweden's Tolerant Recordings (owned by Inkfish and David West). His second single is due for release at the end of May and in just a few short months his music has already been supported and played by the world's biggest names, such as: Armin Van Buuren, Steve Lawler, Nic Fanciulli, Dubfire, Milton Jackson and many more.
With a local, national and international gig calendar thats growing each day, several new production projects in the works, and an unlimited source of drive and passion, the future is looking bright for Kev Obrien and Stranjjur. Stay tuned...
Billy Disciple (Stranjjur NYC, Undulate Recordings - NYC)
Billy Disciple has been at forefront of electronic music culture since 1994. Over the span of his career, Billy has performed in countless states along the east coast and has shared the decks with some of the industry’s most prolific artists, including Terry Lee Brown Junior, Kevin Saunderson, Christian Smith, Josh Wink, Nic Fanciulli, Chloe Harris, and many others. Some noteworthy venues for Billy include the Limelight, Sullivan Room, Crobar NYC, Bar 13, Club Firestone, and Club H2O to name a few.
Presently, Billy has shifted his focus slightly from performing to A&R duties for his first record label project, Undulate Recordings. Undulate is the brainchild of Billy’s best mate and fellow Sullivan Room resident, Al Alvarez (Deepspell). The duo once served as the driving force behind People NYC, and were responsible for organizing several of the most innovative events to hit New York, including the New York City debuts of Pig & Dan and D-Formation. As the A&R for Undulate, Billy will have a large hand in developing the label’s vision and musical direction – a task that his vast experience has prepared him well for.
In addition, Billy recently partnered up with Stranjjur’s Kev O'brien to launch the Stranjjur NYC monthly event at Bar 13. To date, their collaboration has been a rousing success due to recent performances by Till von Sein, Carlo Lio, Chris Manik, Bearweasel, Spencer Parker, Alex Niggemann, and Joeski; with Milton Jackson and many others confirmed for future events.
Vadim Dostmann (LESS, Biatch Corp)
Vadim, born in Moscow, Russia was involved in New York's electronic music scene since 1998. In the spring of 2007 he along with Eddie Krilov (known as one half of production duo Alka_Rex) and Igal Nassima started the infamous Less weekly Saturday night events which continued with a two-year residence at the Annex on the lower east side Manhattan. LESS featured some of the top international and U.S. artists along with the local and emerging talent. Less past guests include Ark, Mossa, Vincent Lemieux, Coutu Demonts, Plexus, Function, Pheek, Ben Paris, Micha Klang, Jan Krueger, K.atou, Derek Plaslaiko, Kate Simko, Camea, Tim Xavier, Insideout, Adultnapper, John Selway, Isomer Transition, Big Bully, Fase Miusic Sender, Le K, Smirk, Atomly, Cesare vs Disorder, Elon, Rich Korach, David Last, Alka_rex, Kevin McHugh, Daze Maxim and many others. These events along with a series of appearances at after-hour loft parties put a spotlight on Vadim as being one of NYC's favorite DJs.
In 2009 Vadim became a resident DJ at Bar 13 - one of the most recognized underground dance music venues in New York. His weekly events there ran for over a year until Vadim decided to take a break to focus on music production.
In the spring of 2010 Vadim made his record debut. The release, called “Strange Loop” came out on Biatch Corp record label compilation “Auditoria” and has received good reviews in the media and from other DJs.
