Line-up / Becoming Real (Ramp/Lo-Fi), Bare Girls (Streets Of Beige), Hyponik DJs, iameverything (Ribbed/Chiq), Dkhds DJs
Bringing the swing and bass of 2009 LA to London spaces, with a dash of NY disco, Streets Of Beige is a venue hopping concept club carving a lone niche. With a conglomerate of "dubstep" artists veering off onto the beaten track of instrumental hip-hop we decided to launch a night to celebrate the most innovate side of bass music in 2010. Anyone with a taste for Dilla, Knxwledge, Onra, James Blake and All City Rec won't be let down. There will also be splashes of disco and slo-mo, and some of the hazier cuts that have been bothering blogs lately. Add to this a hefty dose of experimental dubstep, a pun on the coin-op classic Streets Of Rage and pretty sure we have a fine steed in the stable ready to burn.
For our launch we've invited fresh-faced BECOMING REAL to set upon us with his live jig. Analogue slips, squelches and pops simmer over fuzzy bass and a gravity-defying swing. With releases on Ramp, Lo-fi - and a forthcoming remix for Warp - the facts speak reams for this young innovator.
The first of our three guests from fellow nights is HYPONIK DJs. Taking a break from hosting and curating some of the biggest bass nights in London, they're resisting a night in with the SNES to dig out some concrete-heavy records for us and you to sup to.
Like a creative ferris wheel that's come of it's hinge IAMEVERYTHING steam into view in a blaze of disco hedonism and, judging by the previous metaphor, crushed punters. Vinyl crackles and models OD to the sound of '77, '79 and '86 white labels.
DCKHDS DJs aka Sam aka Sinters Deluxe, may be new to Streets Of Beige, but upon hearing his live finger-action in a drunken flurry at a post-gig it was practically confirmed that he'd be a future guest. Watch out for him juggling disco and crystallized 90's house with the aforementioned iameverything boys.
And lastly, steering this ship of bamboozled bass pirates will be BARE GIRLS, who will be putting the live show on hold and showcasing a set of staggered beat workouts taking in everyone from Devonwho to Washed Out to Onra and Dilla. Like lush Super-8 for the ears.
Keep it Beige.
