PREFORMING HER CLUB SLAMMER . .STARSTRUCK

After recent recognition from BBC 1xtra, soulful songstress Soneni prepares to soar with the release of her highly-anticipated debut single, “StarStruck”.

An accomplished singer, writer and poet, Soneni has a spectrum of musical influences. Her diverse style combines her Southern African heritage (from artists such as the late Miriam Makeba), Hip-Hop (Lauryn Hill, The Roots, Estelle, Klashnekoff, Talib Kweli, Nas), Neo-Soul (Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Bilal) as well as Gospel, Funk, Poetry and the odd flirtation with a bit of Soft Rock/Indie (Richard Ashcroft). The list goes on, and yet the key glue that intertwines it all, is indeed SOUL. The songstress explains: "I call my music Soul music... as that's where I write from. What’s most important to me (when making music) is that I create music that I enjoy; music that touches people and is timeless".

“StarStruck” is a feel-good track, guaranteed to put a spring back into your two-step (and just in time for the summer). Soneni’s soft and sweet vocals are wrapped up in warm melodies that melt like honey over the blissful beats of producers Funk For The Soul. In late 2008, “StarStruck”, the single was not only broadcast on BBC 1xtra, but selected out of hundreds of tracks to be one of three songs used as part of the BBC 1xtra HomeGrown podcast (distributed to around 20,000 listeners).

Subsequently, Soneni has had feature performance slots at various venues across London's live music scene, including Rudy's Revenge in Holborn, Juno Bar in Shoreditch, as well as performing with Remedy (Oh! Bar, Camden). Her performance history has also included shows at West Ham FC Stadium, Troy Bar, 291 Gallery, in addition to venues around Brighton and Bournemouth. The production team behind StarStruck, Funk For The Soul is a collective of eclectic and versatile live musicians making everything from Acoustic to Afrobeat, Funky to Grime and Reggae to Soul (www.myspace.com/funkforthesoul).
