ATTACK OF THE SUPERPITCHER!
German Techno supremo Superpitcher will wreck havoc on Sydney harbour in a no-holes-barred Halloween boat party slotted for Saturday October 30. On his last voyage down under he destroyed the Home Terrace at Livewire in a marathon appearance the punters still talk about. Now, finally, he returns to Australia for an afternoon of carnage aboard a three-level vessel on Sydney harbour, and with his long-awaited sophomore album Kilimanjaro having just been released – after no less than six years of waiting – the timing couldn’t be better.
Beats, freaks, Halloween and the Kompakt kingpin himself on Sydney harbour: what more could you ask for, cretin?
SUPERPITCHER
You know how at this point some promoters copy and post an outdated myspace bio about their headline act? We’re going to skip that and opt for a brief rundown of some of Superpitcher’s highlights for those who came in late.
Though it has taken Superpitcher six years to release Kilimanjaro don’t be fooled into thinking our man has been quiet on the production front. In fact, he’s been rather prolific, collaborating with a certain Michael Mayer under the ‘Supermayer’ alias. Their slow burning debut LP ‘Save The World’ spawned the club bomb ‘Two of Us’, while they’ve also crafted some memorable remixes together for artists as diverse as Hot Chip, Alter Ego, our own Gotye and Rufus Wainwright (!). But Superpitcher is a revered producer in his own right. He remains responsible for one of the classic Kompakt anthems with ‘Happiness’, dropped a wonderful cover of Brian Eno’s ‘Baby’s on Fire’ and his ‘Today’ mix album is one of the better compilations to have been released on the revered label – and there’s plenty of competition on that front. Of his solo remixes, it’s hard to separate his reworks of M83, The MFA and DJ Hell as all are bona fide snorters. The early word on Kilimanjaro is it’s a gem too: check out the 4/5 review on RA here: http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=7973
ALEXKID
An electronic missionary, Alexkid has taken his epic live arrangements and inventive DJ sets to the four corners of the map and everywhere in between, transferring his early infatuation with the live spectacle into moist celebrations of the moment. Connection is key, and Alexkid’s intuitive interpretations of other artist’s music extends far beyond the DJ booth. After ending five years of residency in Berlin's Weekend club, he has finally moved to the German capital where he's now set his base at Water-gate club.
In demand as a remix artist, he has lent remixes to everyone from Damian Lazarus to George Michael,
cultivating a collaborative understanding that is no more present than in the minimalist pop leanings of his 2006 album ‘Caracol’.
Alexkid tamed his ecstatic compositions into works of profound balance and precision. Working as much with the absence of sound, punches of silence punctuated slick productions in a body of work that simultaneously
complimented both dance floor and kitchen floor.
With a collaboration with Berlin minimal troupe M.A.N.D.Y in the works, as well as releases planned on
both Cadenza , Rekids and NRK, 2010 looks to be another significant chapter in the ever transforming and enterprising career of Alexkid.
PARTY DETAILS
Never afraid of “gilding the lily”, Subsonic and Chemistry have added some extra excess to the mix for this bash. First off, this is themed. Properly themed. No half-assed costumes will be accepted… go all out or cart your sorry half-ass out to the X for a generic night out, as there will be nuthin’ normal about this bash.
The theme? Rock’n’roll zombies and crack whores from outer space. Note well droogies that there will be a stringently enforced $10 surcharge for those who don’t fulfill the costume requirement to the outrageous standard required.
Now, there is also a hand-picked array of some of Sydney’s finest locals across disparate genres including a rooftop dub arena to compliment the techno, house and “acid-shoe gaze micro house” – shutup Honnery – on the two floors below.
There’s also rumours of an additional international and a secret warehouse afterparty still yet to be revealed but that’s all superfluous, as we really don’t need to adorn this lustrous crown with any more jewels at this stage. Just think Superpitcher Halloween carnage on the harbour, with limited tickets available (so we can keep it cozy, see). Your time starts… now.
