Thursday 21st October Octopus and Pygmalion bring you one of the most sought after producers and Djs on the underground scene at present, the head honcho of Cecille records, Cocoon star and Space, Ibiza resident Nick Curly. Joined by Sian, Octopus boss and Bedrock recording artist within the majestic confines of Pygmalion in the Powerscourt Townhouse. Plus Fratboy and JohnMantis heating up the night's events from 9pm.
Nick Curly can look back on an enthralling two year spell where his package of killer productions, red-hot record labels and captivating DJ sets have combined to make him one of the most talked about artists to arrive on to the underground scene. This summer, he takes his career to a new level when he launches his DJ residency at Space Ibiza and provides one of the mixes in the latest installment of the iconic ‘Cocoon Ibiza Summer’ compilation series, alongside Marco Carola. Producing records since 2005 and, at that time, only a well known name in Germany’s Rhein-Main area, Nick’s early releases on murmur, Supernature, 8 bit and Plastic City laid the groundwork and lit the fuse in the mid 00’s, before subsequent tracks like ‘Pujante’ (Cocoon), and the Cecille releases ‘Stuntman’ and ‘Dubnoise’ saw Nick explode out of the domestic German scene and on to the worldwide stage for the first time. The big names were not slow to identify his talent and hugely well received remixes soon followed on Get Physical, Liebe*Detail, Mobilee and Saved. As a creator of taste, Nick has taken his Cecille and Cecille Numbers labels, that he run together with Marc Scholl, into the stratosphere since their inception, delivering one dancefloor smash 12” after another and, in the process, helped launch the careers of acts such as Markus Fix, SIS, Robert Dietz and Alex Celler. More recently, his work together with partner Gorge on his ‘other’ label 8 Bit Records has consistently been hitting the highest heights and Nick now finds himself in the enviable position of having three of the top 20 charted labels on Resident Advisor’s esteemed DJ charts each month.
Not many modern electronic producers can say they know as much about the architecture and social structure of a beehive as the chord structure of their own music, but then again, not many have quickly developed an oeuvre of work that has gathered the attention of labels like Dubfires Sci&Tec,Soma recordings,Paul Woolfords Intimacy,Pokerflat and Bedrock in such a short space of time either.Regarded as one of the most promising upcoming acts in the techno scene today,Sian has already been reworked and remixed by talent like Gui Boratto,Steve Bug,Efdemin,Minilogue and Pan-Pot and still so early on in his career, has toured all over the world.Rocking heaving crowds and bringing his trademark experimental DJing style to the masses via multiple outputs of explosive techno,fx and loops, cut up and edited live. His tracks instantly caught the ear of everyone from Luciano,Richie Hawtin,Ricardo,Loco Dice,Steve Bug to Sasha,John Digweed and Carl Cox,and have shown how a genre busting talent crosses over stylistic boundaries with ease.Appearances on very select labels,Combined with his unusual DJing approach and acclaimed work on his own new techno imprint,Octopus,he is recognized by peer and press alike as one to watch. From international radio like the BBC to press like Djmag,Idj,Mixmag,Raveline,Xlr8,Resident Advisor etc,the praise for his feverish tracks and raw sound are unanimous. His DJ sets at international clubs and festivals in Europe,Usa,Canada,Eastern Europe,South America,Australia and beyond have seen memorable nights at pioneering clubs like Berghain,Secretsundaze,Tripod,Weekend,Hive,Nitsa,Mulletover,Compression,The Loft,Fusion Festival,The Endup etc etc, feature his marathon DJ sets, bringing real voodoo to the dancefloor every time.He is also now a showcase artist for Week-end club in Berlin, rolling out his trademark freaky style at the club and events regularly. When you have interests ranging from entomology, cosmology and marine biology to psychoacoustics and the social impact of the rave generation, you tend to make unusual art.Born in Dublin,Ireland, raised gypsy style in southern Spain and constantly moving cities,Sian chose early to drop out of normal society, make music and DJ.Adhering more to the avant-garde way of life,he stands out as a little more bohemian than the average electronic figure,a rare, flamboyant and eccentric new talent.Demand is now heating up for Sians remixes, with recent projects like Gui Boratto,Guy J,Audiofly,Simon Baker And Vegetable Orchestra Project (other remixers on this peculiar project are Anja Schneider,Luciano,Villalobos),he has illustrated a genuinely diverse sound and achingly sublime production technique. His biggest undertaking yet: his own forward thinking and contemporary techno imprint,Octopus, has kickstarted a whole plethora of main room stompers and left field under- ground bombs, with new tracks and remixes from esteemed names like Paul Woolford,Ripperton,Gui Boratto,3 Channels,Norman Nodge,Jonas Kopp,John Selway,Exercise One,Roland M Dill and bright new talent like Calculus and Nico purman, the young imprint is already getting praised by DJs like Carl Cox,Richie Hawtin,Sasha,Dubfire,Loco Dice,John Digweed,Damian Lazarus,M.A.N.D.Y and much press rapture from Djmag,Idj,Mixmag,Resident Advisor,Groove,XlR8 etc.Whether conducting everlasting sweat soaked dj sessions or creating timeless dance music, Sian is a truly diverse and original talent,at once chic and debonaire, always intensely inventive...
The nomadic clubnight started in Barcelona has seen everyone from Josh Wink to Secretsundaze join Sian behind the decks, it now comes to Dublin's elegant Pygmalion at The Powerscourt center. Most recent guests have included Anja Schneider & Damian Lazarus with D'julz, Paul Woolford and more to come + resident DJs Sian, Fratboy & JohnMantis. Join group for free passes, mixes, pics etc.
