Tighten Up Crew, Deadly Dragon Sound (New York), MC Champian and Carl Meeks
Because you demanded it!
The Tighten Up Crew present 'Trash And Ready - Extra Large!' a Saturday night special at a brand new venue in the heart of North London! And we're pleased as punch to feature not only the return of New York's top Reggae crew - the lethal 'Deadly Dragon Sound' - but also a special appearance from Dancehall legend - Carl Meeks - live & direct from Jamaica - performing the classic tunes that have seen a resurgence in popularity with the recent rise in interest in 80s Digital Reggae.
Carl began singing in the early 80s, recording for producer George Lemon of the Photographer label. At the apex of the 'digital' era in the mid-late 80s, he recorded many classic songs such as 'Danger', 'Weh Dem Fah' and 'Johnny' composed by Steely and Clevie. His distinctive voice bridges the gap between the late 70s/early 80s 'waterhouse' roots style of Michael Rose or Junior Reid and the rougher and coarser 'raggamuffin' vocal style which influxed Jamaican music at the end of the 80s. Since the early 90s he has remained relatively absent from Reggae music, only voicing occasional tunes and dubplates in recent times. However, the Tighten Up Crew and Deadly Dragon are providing a rare chance to catch Carl 'Tuff Scout' Meeks in full style & fashion in London town.
The event is open mic so if you have positive lyrics.. bring dem come!
