ONE PARTY STATE
THERE IS ONLY ONE PARTY. OURS.
Sweeping all before it, with a strident “Work Hard! Play Hard!” ethos, club night One Party State is now TWO YEARS into the implementation of its five year plan... over those two years we've played host to some real corkers including Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Futurecop!, Joe & Will Ask?, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Punks Jump Up, The Whip, Grum, Vicarious Bliss and Primary 1, amongst many others.
Our manifesto is to provide the best night out for London’s downtrodden workers, at Camden’s Barfly. And it’s paying off – the venue has been packed each time!
Under threat of exile to the musical gulag, the DJs on both floors have been ordered to play their best possible sets by our Musical Commissars. Farm hands and factory workers (and their modern, office-based equivalents) are all invited... The clubbing Bourgeoisie and their lackeys are not! We are vehemently anti-socialite!
UPSTAIRS, there's live music from:
PIPPA MARIAS (live @ 23.45)
swedish electro pop now residents of Dalston (we all play synth! nooo thats cruel they are great!) big synth lines - snapping 909 drums swaggering attitude these boys are going to smash it next year shows lining up we have them for a proper system and rave up so expect this to be a big one - lets strobe the shit out of it!
"It sounds like Zdar/Cassius/Phoenix style french dance pop,
but with more of an edge.
Then you realise it’s because they’re Swedish,
and as we all know, the Swedes OWN
good dance inflected pop music"
gill mills best of myspace
FILTHY BOY (live @ 23.15) - this bunch of art school weirdies (we love weirdies ) play a bizarre mix of king crimson and blusey alt rock
they've just won the vice magazine koppaburg clash for new bands which netted them £1000 so that should be useful for buying outlandish outfits of which they favour a leigh bowery look mixed with glam rock - the sweet on steroids ?
"swaggering and dirty, blues-soaked alt.rock" - time out
Then, after the bands, get stuck into Decadent Electro ‘n’ Eclectic Sounds from:
THE INFADELS (Wall Of Sound) DJ SET - these boys are on wall of sound, have rampaged on tour through over 20 countries, had albums produced by heavyweights Youth and Jagz Kooner and their new material is produced by wonder-kid Alex Metric. Not only a great band who inspire audiences and were voted best live act at Lowlands Festival - way above big cheeses NERD and Editors - but also esteemed DJs. They play a mixture of electro/ techno and the faster bit of new disco and aren't afraid of crowd-pleasers - expect strobes, lasers and fist-pumping action! "Rave Music for the Franz Generation" said NME.
JEFF AUTOMATIC (Transmission) - Jeff's been busy playing all over Europe, including many a scorchio-hot festival in Spain - one involving a set in a bull ring! - and club dates with Transmission at Barcelona's Razzmatazz, Benicassim and London's Egg. Tonight he'll be packing the dance–floor with stomping electro tracks and getting the dancefloor in order for the guest DJs!
DOWNSTAIRS, prepare for Revolutionary Modern Guitar Music For A Utopian Future from:
STEVE HARRIS (XFM) - Steve is king of Xfm's Evening Show, weeknights between 7pm and 10pm,delivering interviews with touring bands and selecting new tunes that are bubbling up. he's played some great DJ sets for us, so we've made him a resident on every 2nd Saturday!
ED WILDER (Club NME) - A man with a vision, ed has played at the top of the bt tower and to massive crowds at v2008. He's also the regular DJ at Corrupt's cutting-edge live nights at Barfly and also a regular at Club NME at Koko. Ed has some fantastic electro remixes coming out soon, so look out for those.
