:: BIGFOOT STRIKES TWO ::
December 3rd celebrates two years of outdoor summer parties at The Courtyard, exclusive guests, trips across Scotland to Snafu and stacking bass bins in abandoned fish factories. After racking up an impressive previous guest list that includes Tim Xavier, Edu Imbernon, Hermanez and David Labeij among others, as well as hosting after parties in launderettes, recording studios, factories and countless basements Bigfoot's now returns to the creative hub of the Art School with AMBIVALENT (Minus). Hauling with them a brand new sound system courtesy of Tannoy and a rejuvenated rig from CPE Lighting (SECC/T in the Park), a truly memorable anniversary is in the making. Ahead of the late night shin-dig Bigfoot's will be taking over the basement at Offshore cafe on Gibson Street (free entry with Ambivalent ticket), for a day of audio-visual art installations and music from the Bigfoot's residents + friends. NB Pre-party is first come first served and a BYOB event.
:: AMBIVALENT ::
Having released records on Minus, Esperanza, Leftroom, Clink and Klickhaus, New York based Kevin McHugh (AKA Ambivalent) is something of a household name in flats where techno gets played absurdly loudly until an ASBO falls silently onto the doormat. Abstract, inventive, at times intimidating and always pounding, Ambivalent’s productions, from 2006’s ‘Roomies’ EP to ‘Down’, released earlier this year, have proved McHugh a consistently quixotic, refreshing and inventive party starter. He is also responsible for the infamous ‘R U OK’ (a genuine vinyl freakout), has collaborated with JPLS, aided Richie Hawtin in the production of the Plastikman live show, and put on parties with such luminaries as Carl Craig, Thomas Brinkmann, Pole and Dimbiman, as well as running his own internet radio show with Camea, ‘The Nerd Tank’.
McHugh’s roots with Minus Records begin around 2000, having begun to put nights on which featured label stalwarts Magda, Troy Pierce and Heartthrob. Since then Ambivalent’s style and sound have evolved even more so into a dark, grooving and often revelatory approach to modern techno which solidifies his live sets and infects the tracks he has remixed, including Andrea Ferlin’s ‘Gender’, Paco Osuna’s ‘Rishko’ and Hawtin’s own ‘Statikphunk’.
2010 has been a busy year for Ambivalent, with two EPs released on Minus this year (‘Down’ and ‘Rumors’) and a heavy touring schedule which Bigfoot's are delighted to say now includes cutting the cake at Bigfoot's December bash.
