WHAT:
Tiger Translate, a multi-sensory cannon of aesthetics set to redefine the way art and music is experienced, makes its anticipated debut in New York City.
WHO:
Aimed at fusing art, design and music as a singular, unified experience, Tiger Translate presents an equally diverse live music line-up featuring the New York debut of Cologne-based producer-musician Burnt Friedman, tabla artist Suphala (New York) and producer Taylor McFerrin (New York). Guest DJs are the inimitable duo A Touch of Class (New York).
?Burnt Friedman (Germany) constantly redefines the boundaries of his musical capacities, under his own label, Nonplace; as outer space jazz duo Flanger alongside Atom Heart, and a vast array of remixes. Praised and admired for his unique cyclical beats, deceptively simple melodies, complex rhythmic structures, Latin inspired composition and his trademark languorous dub-inspired ingenuity, to exotic impressions. This is Friedman’s first US appearance. For more information, visit http://www.nonplace.de
Suphala’s (New York) versatility enables her to embrace jazz, hip-hop, rock, techno, and world fusion. In performance, Suphala leads her own band of musicians to integrate varied genres and create a rich, emotive, and spontaneous live sound. Her unique sound has attracted the admiration and attention of world-renowned recording-artists and has led to collaborations with the likes of Perry Ferrell (Jane’s Addiction), Lady Ms. Kier (Dee-Lite), 4Hero, Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Sussan Deyhim, Joan Osbourne, Vikter Duplaix, DJ Logic, DJ Fafu and Norah Jones. Taylor McFerrin (New York) is redefining the one-man show. Combining his skills as a producer and performer, Taylor is making music heads around the world take notice as he seamlessly builds songs from scratch with his ambitious solo project. Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, samples, vocals and beatboxing are meshed together in his Brooklyn bedroom studio as Taylor builds from his roots in ‘60s soul to his vision of future hip-hop. In addition to his US performances, Taylor also toured internationally with the Yohimbe Brothers in 2005. MTV took notice of Taylor’s skills as a producer and used his beats to promote the 2005 Video Music Awards. For more information, visit http://www.myspace.com/taylormcferrinmusic
