After the Slowpoke opener with THREE we wondered how we were possibly going to top that? What a night…the venue was perfect, the sound was spot on, the music was fully loaded and most importantly…you lot were totally up for it.
So we decided, let’s skip the madness of December and do the next party in January. We’ve all shaken off the chaos of the festive season by then, leaving the real music lovers on the hunt for something amazing . What better way to celebrate the new year than with two acts who truly understand the Slowpoke philosophy and for whom 2011 has a lot of great things in store…Berlin’s Trickski and Leeds boys Death on the Balcony.
You can expect much of the same; a party made by…and made for…folks who appreciate quality. The music will provide a warm and unhurried build up to the end of the night, the sound will be unsurpassed and the venue will be fresh. No tickets, no pre-pay…just £5 on the door with RSVP. We hope you’ll join us; it’s going to be a brilliant night.
Trickski (Sonar Kollektiv | Suol | Berlin)
The deluge of absolutely blinding music continues to flow out of Germany unabated. Whether it is forward-looking techno or equally forward looking jazz inflected dance music (let's not split hairs about genre), the tide is not losing its momentum. And this is perfectly exemplified by the Berlin based duo known as Trickski.
These Trickski geezers seem to gravitate towards the house and techno side of things but they also have a bit of a penchant for slow –but still nasty – grooves and a pinch of soul and jazz in the mix. Rumor has it their party in Berlin, simply named The Weekend Club, is a bit of a sweaty, nasty clusterfuck where all manner of badness goes down.
Death on the Balcony (Airdrop | Magicbag Music)
After gracing New York label Wolf + Lamb's Soul Clap's FreE.P. with their joyous edit of Bananarama's Cruel Summer, Leeds-based duo Death on the Balcony's brewed mix of deep house, disco and 80s pop meant a string of tour dates to follow. Mark Caramelli and Paul Hargreaves from up North have come a long way, running their own Magicbag Music label releasing the likes of Youandewan, Ste Roberts and remixes from 2020 Vision's Simon Baker, Gavin Herlihy, Soul Clap and Jamie Jones.
From a DOTB DJ set you can expect anything from disco new and old/re-edits through to house and deep techno, depending on the time, space and environment. "We like spontaneity in our DJ sets so much is never planned! Production wise... we make deep trippy disco, house music and a cheeky edit here & there, focusing on groove, infused with melody and most importantly to bring this to the people on the dancefloor."
Our guests will be supported by the Slowpoke creators and residents; Brian Monaco, Gower Ramsey and Jaime Ritchie.
