2010 was the year Cubism cemented itself as a leading underground UK label with a consistent and prolific output of cutting edge, forward thinking house and techno. At the end of last year the label secured a successful monthly residency at the legendary Source Bar in Maidstone Kent, and has already welcomed guests such as Yousef, Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Harvey McKay, Sam Ball, Jordan Peak and Reset Robot to play alongside resident DJ/Producers Paul Johnson, Mike Healey, Rick Nicholls, Asher Jones, Deanoloco and label owner Mark Gwinnett (Lunacy Sound Division). As we move into 2011 the residency is set to blow up as the imprint continues to deliver first class electronic dance music.
For Cubism’s London debut the label will be taking over the main room at Cargo to celebrate the launch of label partner Saytek’s latest instalment in his critically acclaimed Live & Remixed series, which re-edits his live performances into DJ friendly tracks as well as sourcing top remixers for his work. Now only on volume 5 of the series, it has already been supported by heavyweights like Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Laurent Garnier, Steve Lawler and Slam among many others.
Saytek has gained a reputation as the most innovative and exciting live act to emerge from the UK underground house and techno scene in recent times. With 2 critically acclaimed & massively popular Zoo Project live albums under his belt his fully improvised hardware shows have seen him being booked for headline slots everywhere from room one Fabric, Sankeys Manchester, The Zoo Project Ibiza, Amnesia Milan, MR C's SuperFreq in France, Cafe De Anvers Belgium, Circus Festival Spain and Patent Blua Berlin to name but a few.
Joining Saytek and Cubism residents Mark Gwinnett, Paul Johnson and Mike Healey in the main room we also have a DJ very familiar to all of London’s clubbers, Jaded resident Raymundo Rodriguez. A long time supporter of Cubism Records he has also appeared on the label with remixes of Adam Ant Project’s ‘Back in the day’ and Saytek’s ‘Bio-Degradable’. With original material from the ‘DJ that never sleeps’ also due for release later in 2011 this will be his first appearance at a Cubism party but certainly not his last.
Completing the line up in the main room we have local DJ/Producer Nathan Rivers. Aside from running his own Undercover parties in Shoreditch Nathan recently added Cubism to the labels he has releases on, a list which already includes Tom Budden’s Alive limprint, Mad Hatter Recordings and 1980.
On the Terrace, The Source Bar will be presenting a selection of the brilliant local DJs that can regularly be found rocking the infamous Maidstone venue week after week.
The Source Bar is Kent’s premier dance music venue playing host to Nic Fanciulli’s Saved parties in his own home town but also other amazing nights like Coma, Bedlam, Electric South, MTD, Techno Prisoners, Mode, Groove Monkey, Off Key after parties, Rob Cockerton’s epic Saturday Sessions and now also Cubism all bringing an enviable line up of DJs to the Kent town. Over the last 12 months alone DJs that have appeared there have included Layo & Bushwacka, Paul Woolford, Carl Cox, Loco Dice, James Zabiela, Gary Beck, Dubfire, Davide Squillace, John Digweed, Pete Tong, Danny Howells, Terry Francis, Tim Green, Nathan Coles, Yousef, Audiofly, Julien Chaptal and Raymundo Rodriguez among many other widely regarded artists across a wide spectrum of club music from dubstep, drum & bass, hip hop with house and techno in all it’s forms.
Headlining the terrace at Cargo on the night is Source main man Rob Cockerton, a widely respected and admired DJ in the industry and part of the Source furniture having appeared at countless huge nights for the club over many years and also as promotions manager and club resident. He is joined by MTD courtyard residents Anthony Froom and Tim Roberts alongside Cubism courtyard resident Deanoloco.
