Rachel Musson, Julie Kjaer
Taeko Kunishima & Clive Bell, Dave Ross, Paul Moylan
Roland Ramanan, Roberto Sassi
Rachel Musson was recently described by the Guardian’s jazz critic, John Fordham as a ‘hot ticket for 2011’. She teams up on this occasion with Danish improviser, Julie Kjaer. Julie is the leading light of ‘CardBoard Whale’, a band that also features Dylan & Roland Bates.
Taeko Kunishima has assembled a fine group of musicians to respond to her wistful blend of Jazz and Japanese folk music. Clive Bell is the foremost UK exponent of the notoriously difficult Japanese flute – the ‘shakuhachi’, and has collaborated with ex Bark Psychosis percussionist, Dave Ross, on many occasions. They are joined by the highly respected Paul Moylan on bass, who has played with a variety of musicians including Michael Garrick, Steve Waterman, Liam Noble, Martin Hathaway, John Ethridge and Alan Jackson. They will be playing along to excerpts from vintage Japanese cinema.
Roland Ramanan and Roberto Sassi are two guys who are very familiar with each other’s playing. They play together regularly in a variety of bands, such as Vole, Roland Ramanan tentet and the London Improvisers Orchestra, but this may be their first outing as a duo.
