The return of TEMPER!:
Temper is a new monthly party sponsored by Scion at Beauty Bar and the FIRST of its kind in Chicago. A lot of buzz has been surrounding the genre miasma of Tropical Bass and those transatlantic tendencies toward the equatorial-influenced timbre is starting to seep into American dance music. TEMPER aims to finally bring Chicago what it?s been missing for some time now: a modern mix of UK Funky, Moombahton, Dancehall, Tribal Guarachero, Cumbia, Soca, UK Garage and all manner of Reggae- Dub- Caribbean- and Latin-Inspired sounds.
This month, sounds by:
LOL BOYS (Palm Out Sounds, Montreal)
KYLE STEWART (Hot Biscuits)
SONIDO RAMPAGE Y NADER (Ghetto Division)
SPARKLETONE
The LOL Boys can either be actual boys Markus G. from Montreal and Jerome P. from LA, or they could be intricately constructed androids born on the internet with a penchant for mind- expanding percussive dance music. They honestly couldn?t say, but what can be said is that the LOL Boys are two of the most forward-thinking producers stateside. Fueled by equal parts shuffling percussion, odd synths, pitch-shifted vocals and a big dose of booming bass, LOL Boys - along with contemporaries L- -Vis 1990, Kingdom, Bok Bok, Dubbel Dutch, Nguzunguzu, Canblaster? are encroaching on uncharted sounds in music: a bit of latin beats, a lot of house and an inability to name exactly what it is besides their own style of genre bending percussive house.
Though a continent apart, LOL Boys have made time to play some of the foremost venues in the US and Canada, and with like- minded folks Egyptrixx, Steve Aoki, Autoerotique, Atrak, Acid Girls, DJ Funk, DJ Assault, Lil' B and Dave Nada. Their releases have been supported by an even longer list of todays tastemakers, but when theyre as solid as their debut 123 on Palms Out Sounds and their equally fire remixes for Bambounou, Florrie, Gold Panda, Korallreven, Samo Sound Boy, Hot City and Mayvanya, its no surprise buzz is building for forthcoming LOL Boys releases on Palms Out Sounds, Discobelle Records, and COOL Records/Mad Decent. Though initially brought together by the internet (and who, these days, isnt?), its their mutual appreciation for classic elements from all countries that makes each LOL Boys set a mlange of house, tribal, funky, guarachero and bass- driven party-starters.
