BEN WATT'S BUZZIN' FLY GOES BACK TO ITS SUNDAY CLUB ROOTS FOR A BANK HOLIDAY PARTY AT THE NEST IN DALSTON ON SUNDAY MAY 29.
After a year of big quarterly parties at Cable, Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly returns to its small Sunday club roots with a special Bank Holiday event on Sunday May 29 at one of London's hottest new venues, The Nest in Dalston.
Joining Watt and long-time sideman Chris Woodward for an eight-hour party will be one of the label's longest-standing underground artists, Manoo, and one of its freshest newcomers, Snoretex.
Manoo first rose to prominence ten years ago as part of Buzzin' Fly's successful French-Portuguese trio, Rodamaal, and then with Lyon collaborator, Francois Aymonier ('Insomnia', 'Traffic', 'Five Seasons', 'Magnetic'). Seminal imprints such DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted and Paris' Realtone have also released his deep but raw Chandler-esque house sound, while his fifteen-year residency at the tiny heaving L'Ambassade club in Lyon still attracts huge guest names who play only for expenses and the thrill of experiencing its unique atmosphere. Don't miss this rare London appearance from one of France's true underground originators.
Snoretex is the solo project from Sam Willis, one of half of WALLS, the two-piece signed to Kompakt who released their debut album last to a cluster of killer reviews. Mojo made it 'Electronica Album Of The Year', while the NME, iDJ and DJ magazine all garnered it with 9/10 ratings. Snoretex inhabits a similar world. Woozy, opaque layers and crystal melodies are skewered with fuzz and feedback over burbling midtempo drums and sequencers. 'Imagine a world where Philip Glass, Harmonia and Mr Fingers intermingle in euphoric hamony,' says Sam. Snoretex's debut single 'Strange Aeons' has just been released on Buzzin' Fly to a wave of hot reviews.
'I have always loved our Sunday parties,' says Ben. 'From the old Lazy Dog nights in west London through to our lengthy Buzzin' Fly residency at Plastic People, they have always attracted a committed community totally into the music and ready to cut loose. The Nest has a perfect 300-ish capacity. With Manoo and Snoretex I'm really looking forward to some classic and forward-facing tunes, and a new space to play them in.'
