This party is about the music. Please check any pretense at the door and come to dance. Sure, the "secrecy" behind this listing is pretentious, but that's hopefully the extent of it when it comes to this party.
Following up the inaugural Discography party, a benefit for Japan with DJs Lovefingers, Prince Language, and James Friedman, we have a special Cinco De Mayo party in store. With NYC DJs Tim Sweeney, Sal P, and Colin Rogister as well as the Parisian stalwart Joakim behind the tables, it's sure to be a good night.
Salvatore Principato, the Liquid Liquid front man comes off of great run of shows with LCD Soundsystem during their final concert series. Sal's DJ efforts are as varied as his other musical projects and he has championed the turntables at venues in the U.S., Europe, and South Africa and is known for his blend of Afro-Latin, Rare Groove, and deep disco tracks. He's also remixed tracks on Rong Music Label, and collaborated on Claremont 56 & Disques Sinthomme releases.
Tim Sweeney has been a fixture on the world-wide dance scene for over a decade and infuses the sounds of NYC legends like Sal P and Larry Levan into his eclectic mixes. Between jet-setting to clubs in cities like London, Dubai, and Jakarta, Tim hosts the top DJs from around the world on his weekly Beats in Space radio show. A member of the DFA crew, he's gone from playing sax over tracks to mixing a host of their releases, including DFA Compilation #2. His 12'' releases on RVNG and in collaboration with Tim Goldsworthy are DJ crate staples.
Joakim is a jack of all trades - an accomplished classical and jazz musician who rips up dance floors and also makes delicate nu-disco/house electronic tracks. He's released two solo albums, toured with his live band, and remixed some heavy hitters like Cut Copy, Air, Chateau Flight, DJ Mehdi, Ewan Pearson and Max Berlin. Joakim runs the Tigersushi label, which has released a broad spectrum of music including Maurice Fulton, E.S.G, Poni Hoax and Metro Area. Oh, and he also designs his own cover art.
Colin Rogister is small potatoes compared to Tim, Sal, and Joakim, but the Brooklyn newcomer can hold his own behind the turntables. The musical blacksheep of a classical music family (his brother conducts the German Opera), Colin has been DJing for over a decade in a variety of locales, including San Francisco, Chapel Hill and now New York, where he held a Friday residency at Coco66. He's started lugging his records overseas, DJing in Istanbul on New Year's Eve at Mini Muzikhol and at Otto for the Beard Newman Presents series.
