So far this year, every Apocalypso has smashed it and this will be no exception. We welcome two of London's hottest properties in Bass Music, Xxxy and Jam City as well as inviting back the excellent Baby Love to host the upstairs for us.
As a DJ Xxxy has produced well received mixes for FACT, BBQ & URB as well as playing dates all over the UK and Europe.
2010 saw the release of a split of the very well received 12” on Infrasonics. Comprised of the Baltimore influenced “Blue Flashing Lights” and the Funky Roller “Know You” which was included in FACT magazine’s tunes of 2010 list.
Pitchfork picked “ordinary things” as it’s best new tune of the day “What's so special about "Ordinary Things" isn't its parts, though, but how impeccably they are put together...This rush comes complete with a joyous "Whoo!" sample to let you know that, yeah, while you're getting the chills, this is still body-moving music.”
2011 will see releases on Orca, Well Rounded, Infrasonics & All City together with Remixes for Tri Angle and the Count & Sinden.
Jam City's "Magic Drops" EP is one of our favourites on the Night Slugs back catalogue so far. With hopefully more to come on this white-hot label in 2011 and a DJ schedule that becomes more hectic each month, this guy is onto something in 2011.
Jam City discovered Grime around 2003 which changed his perception of music. It sounded totally alien and experimental whilst still having a direct energy at club level.
He then found out about Chicago Trax Records and pretty much wanted to live inside the Trax cover of a Chicago sunset. A couple of years after that he started making his own tracks and edits, the rest is Jam City. Jam City makes romantic grimey house for the club or the jeep or a walk through a waterpark at night.
