World Unknown co-organiser, Cave Paintings and Dissident Distribution top banana and owner of one of the most revered record collections in music, Andy Blake will be dropping in to The Blue Note on 21st May for his first visit to Irish shores. Expect a heady dose of heavyweight Balearic, disco, house, psyche, terrace-funk and techno from a DJ who could realistically be seen as a worthy successor to Andrew Weatherall's position as king of U.K selectors. Any fan of great sonic documenters shouldn't miss this, as although his name isn't yet recognised, Andy Blake has all the talent of other modern greats, such as Theo Parrish - and the records to back it up.
Between 2007 and the end of 2009, Andy’s ‘Dissident Distribution’ imprint churned out some of the most forward thinking, leftfield electronic music heard in years – open-minded, idiosyncratic and more often than not, against the flow of expectation. Each record was pressed on single-sided slabs of vinyl and limited to 200 pressings, astutely making them instant cult classics with those in the know. Now, after bringing Dissident to a close, Andy’s latest label, Cave Paintings, is on its second release of raw, organic machine funk, produced in the true tradition of Chicago House. In addition, a label representation of World Unknown (his innovative Brixton club night, co-organised with Bodyhammer’s Joe Hart) is imminent.
Due to his growing profile and it being his very first set in Ireland, this opportunity to catch Andy in the intimate surroundings of The Blue Note is not one you’ll want to pass up.
Support will be provided by the fantastic Mr. Padraic Disconaut, and sounds will begin to roll at 8pm. Entry is FREE.
