DJ Nick Luscombe
DJ Nick Luscombe's `Flomotion' has broadcast on numerous highly regarded radio stations, including Resonance FM, NME Radio, Samurai FM and XFM. In 2010, `Flomotion' celebrated 10 years as one of the UK's longest running weekly electronic music radio shows and highly successful regular live and club event, showcasing cutting edge live acts and DJ's in respected venues across London.
Beat Unique is a booking agency representing the best cutting edge electronic music acts and DJs, available for global live performances at bars, clubs, festivals and events. Each carefully chosen act on the roster is innovative, groundbreaking, unique, constantly evolving and above all, outstanding.
On 11th June, Flomotion and Beat Unique join forces to bring you three acts from the Beat Unique roster, at the forefront of electronic music... Rotk?ppchen, Alan Starck and DJ Nick Luscombe. The night will mix up electro, electronica, dubstep, drum n bass, rap, deep and minimal house, techno, broken beat, jazz, hip hop and beyond... there are no limits. Beat Unique shares the Flomotion ethos and it's unblinking belief in new generation forward-thinking music and we hope to share it with you too.
What would you get if you crossed Soulwax, Kraftwerk, The Whip and The White Stripes? Well, their (certainly attractive) offspring might look something like Rotk?ppchen, a magical English/German two-piece who play live electronic music and look like they've stepped straight out of a fairy tale.
Anne and Ian aka Rotk?ppchen combine laptop, synths and several technical devices with live drums (played by Anne) to create non-stop danceable bassy electro sets. They play their own songs as well as remixed mash-ups of popular samples - making them a mixture of live band and live DJs.
As their name means 'little red riding hood' in German, they're known for wearing red capes on stage which has become their trademark (and has also shaped their nickname 'Caped Crusaders').
Rotk?ppchen are based in London, with their home ground being the East London electro scene. They've played with some great acts such as Drums of Death, Ladyhawke, Soho Dolls, Lovely Jonjo, Dolby Anol to name a few and have recently played international gigs in Hamburg and Paris.
First signing to Ominim Records (outside of mainstay artist and label founders Yimino) was Alan Starck, an eccentric electronic innovator who has produced a gem of an album, aptly named Farrago.
Initially alerted to the guys at Ominim by a good old-fashioned demo tape, Alan's playful and humorous electronics immediately appealed and a creative relationship was born.
Originally advised at school that his calling in life was to be a wig-maker, Alan instead chose to study medicine but still found time to get out of the theatre and into the studio where he could create his own brand of music. Inspired musically by an eclectic mix of Detroit Techno artists, Prince, Miles Davis, Stravinsky and Rachmaninov, Alan is now happily working as a London GP, whilst his alter ego spends time conjuring up an array of sonic prescriptions fit for any needy soul. The result of which can be heard in full on this debut long-player.
Doctor Starck's musical mind is clearly brimming with ideas that inspire him to produce the keyboard runs, acid squelches, bleeps and stabs sprinkled throughout this debut. Luckily for us, he's busy creating more electronic treats from deep within the lab. Watch this quirky space, why don't you?
