Odyssey originally from Brooklyn with a passion for blending disco, salsoul, afro-cuban and calypso, were an influential band on the dance scene who were best known in the USA for their 1977 hit ‘Native New Yorker’, and other smash hits including the Slave produced ‘Inside Out’ plus ‘Use it Up And Wear It Out’, which stayed at #1 in the UK chart for two weeks in 1980, and the classic ‘Going Back to My Roots’ in 1981.
Away from the glitz and glamour of the Studio 54 scene, the group emerged from the streets where Hip-Hop was born. Although they gained a lot of commercial success they had a parallel existence on the New York dance scene, performing regularly at clubs such as Larry Levan's infamous Paradise Garage. They were also in high demand individually as session musicians. Their timeless music has inspired further generations of producers and DJ's including Kenny Dope Gonzales, Tensnake and Dimitri From Paris.
