At this point, the ICEE HOT crew has reached a place where we are just booking people that we really want to see, particularly those who have never played in San Francisco before. This month, we are going BIG with a new band on the dark and synthy tip, a bonafide Detroit techno legend, and a Rinse FM resident who turns out dark funky like no other. We can't wait to smash up the main room at Public Works with this confusing and ...exciting lineup!!
Brooklyn's CREEP has made big moves in 2011 with their first single, "Days," released on Young Turks and featuring the guest vocals of Romy from The xx. Another CREEP track features Latin pop princesas Nina Sky on the mic. Throw in remixes from Soul Clap, Azari and III, and Deadboy and these girls clearly share our love of eclectic, forward-thinking sounds. Plus, their music is DARK, so bring your cauldrons and make some special potions on the dancefloor.
Detroit legend Anthony "Shake" Shakir has been making techno music for more than 20 years, rubbing elbows with originators such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Carl Craig. His music is STRAIGHT UP NO BONES DETROIT TECHNO. We are so honored to have this legend with us and can't wait to see what he brings to our ears. Shake literally can't remember if he has played SF before, so let's just go ahead and assume this is a first.
Last but certainly not least, we have Hyperdub artist and Rinse FM genius (not Geeneus) Scratcha DVA. Over the past few years, Scratcha has made his dark, sinister funky a mainstay in the arsenal of so many of the UK scene's biggest names. He is also an incredible DJ and he shows his skills as the host of Rinse FM's Grimey Breakfast Show.
Bringing support as always are Shawn Reynaldo (the boss), Ghosts on Tape (the weirdo), and Rollie Fingers (nobody cares).
There you have it! SO MANY FIRSTS.
