MO FINGAZ & BOBA FATT
Part 2 of the birthday weekender should be a bit more of a laid back affair – at least until the sun goes down! We’re taking over the massive south-facing terrace at The Big Chill House in King’s Cross. With the BBQ fired up, there should be plenty of food and drinks as we roll from 3pm til 10pm. As well as the usual NICE UP! residents SHEPDOG, MIKEE LAZY, MO FINGAZ & BOBA FATT we have the following to help us celebrate:
One of the UK’s veterans of bass music, Tony Thorpe has played a massive part in the progression of dub music. From his early Acid House productions and his work with The KLF to his more recent releases on his own Studio Rockers label, there has always been an element of dub. From dubstep to roots, techno and hip hop, there’s always a surprise in store fro this man.
Described as “Brighton’s Lee Scratch Perry” by a certain Rob Da Bank, Richie Phoe brings a unique authentic vibe to his music, evoking the spirit of King Tubby & The Scientist. Collaborations with Tippa Irie and remixes for Yes King and Ghetto Priest have cemented his reputation as a producer to keep an eye on.
Another legend in our midst – one half of the team behind Fashion Records, arguably the UKs first and finest dancehall label. Home to the recently deceased Smiley Culture, the label rocketed to success in the early 80s with releases from all of the big names in the game at the time. During the 90s it also embraced jungle, with releases from Top Cat, Cutty Ranks and many others. Expect a soulful roots & reggae set.
Hailing from Edinburgh, Capitol 1212 makes the kind of music we love at NICE UP! working with the likes of Jungle Brothers, Tenor Fly, Serocee, ED OG, & Grandmaster Caz they have built up a loyal following north of the border and around the world. DJ Fly T joins us for some heads high hip hop and reggae.
One of the brains behind the popular SHIMMY SHIMMY blog, as well as the fantastic NO ICE CREAM SOUND zine, The Large is dropping in to bless us with her dancehall and bashment selection in the afternoon.
London lurker and member of the Disco Shed entourage, TROL23 can be seen propping up the bar at pretty much any night you care to go to. He’ll be kicking things off with a righteous selection of roots and off-shoots
