Mark Spanoudakis aka Kreon is one of few Greek producers to have made an impact on the electronic music scene. Both his solo releases and co-productions with friend and compatriot Lemos are loaded with a changing and mutating flair and character, each release an experiment in musical alchemy yielding progressively stronger results.
His percussive and jazz tipped sound has found its place through solo releases for labels such as Cecille, Robsoul and Bass Culture, with boutique Parisian label Masomenos one of many to have showcased releases with Lemos. Two years since they first sprung onto the scene, their focus turns to home turf in the form of recent work with Tony Lasar, developing their take on the ‘Greek sound’.
Recognising the burgeoning talents of many of their as yet unrecognised contemporaries form their home country, 2010 will see the trio’s contribution to house music step up a notch with the launch of new label Orpheas, a labour of love intended to tease a new passion from a musically ailing Athens.
Having been quite literally surrounded by music from as early as he can remember (his father owned a huge collection of vinyl), Kreon’s early musical education took in jazz, classic rock, pop, soul, disco and even country. Time spent away from home during his teenage years on an electrical engineering course allowed him to immerse himself in the sounds of US house, with his first forays into the world of music production allowing him to try out many characters, forming an experimental tendency still evident in his musical style to this day.
Tomas Es a.k.a. Tomas Stratakis was born in Crete in 1991. From his early years he was into music, particularly rock and metal. When he got 12 he started playing the guitar and later on drums and a bit of bass guitar. In 2005 he created a metal band with some friends but it didn't work out. By that time he was looking up to his uncle who was a dj with a vast collection of records and big love for music. At the age of 16 he got into a different style of music. He began collecting hip hop records and started djing for small parties. As he mastered and developed his djing skills he got into clubs and got himself residencies and guest performances in some of the best clubs across his city. At the same time his close friend and now partner Jo Papa, had already started djing but in a different style of music. This music was House and Techno which Tomas Es found really interesting. Together with Jo Papa, they formed a djing and producing duo. Tomas Es is influenced by a variety of music genres. His music thoughts take elements out of jazz, funk, hip hop to metal and rock.On the electronic side of him some influences are artists such as Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Move D, Gemini and others.
