Skeptical is a 26-year-old drum & bass DJ / producer from Hitchin, Hertfordshire. With tracks coming on respected labels like Exit Records, 31 Records, Dispatch and Ingredients, 2011 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year. We had a chat with Skeptical recently to find out all about him...

When did you first try your hand at DJing and producing?
I instantly took to DJing when I had my first mix, Although I couldn't beat match, it urged me to get a pair of decks and learn. That was 13 years ago. I've been messing around in the studio for four years now but only the last two years I've been happy with my tunes.

What's your studio set-up like?
A PC, some monitors, soundcard and loads of software. Cubase SX3 as my DAW. It works for me.

Any advice for any aspiring producers / DJs out there?
Keep it simple, don't try to over complicate everything. If it sounds good, nine times out of ten it is. Also don't sell yourself to short, it's your music, you decide what happens.

Tell us about your recent and forthcoming releases...
Out now on Ingredients is Transfer / Block 305, Cold One / Fallen Angel with Dub Phizix and Sphere / Dream Police / At.Most.Fear while Breathe is on Broken Audio. I have two tracks out now on Dispatch's Transit One LP - Process of Elimination and Structure, which was written with MC Fokus. Exit have a forthcoming compilations called Mosaic and I've got a track on that called Another World. I also have some bits coming on Inneractive Music and 31 Records.

What are you currently working on in the studio?
I've got some rollers on the go at the moment as well as some more collabs with MC Fokus and Dub Phizix.

Done any interesting remixes recently?
I do have some remix projects coming, you can hear one on the mix I've done. It's a remix I've done for Displaced Paranormals, a tune called Epidemic.

Are you making any other styles of music apart from drum & bass?
Downtempo, dubstep and the odd bit of hip hop.

Tell us a bit more about your mix...
It's a mixture of tunes from artists and labels I'm feeling at the moment and because it's a studio mix I get the chance to play some dubby minimal bits, but still keeping some room for the rollers.

What music are you currently feeling?
Break, Dubphizix, DLR & Octane, DBR UK, Alix Perez, Loxy, Flatliners, dBridge, Anile, System, Fracture & Neptune. The list is endless...

Where can people see you play in the near future?
18 June - interlude @ Chez Jacki (Maria am Ostbahnhof), Berlin
1-5 September - Outlook Festival, Croatia
