Having garnered a musical presence and maturity that can rival many of the world’s leading names, it has actually been the past few years which has borne witness to the bulk of his career’s biggest milestones. International support DJ for music legend Boy George, Marc’s profile has reached unprecedented levels in years gone by with everyone from CNN and E! News to The New York Times and The Guardian newspaper giving coverage on his profile.
It is this exposure and the celebration of his club night Koolwaters 10..th.. birthday that led DJ Magazine to invite Marc host the Loft room at the Top 100 DJs 2010 Awards party at Ministry of Sound in London. Sharing the bill with heavyweight rockers as Deadmau5, Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand, and newly crowned World #1 DJ Armin van Buuren was a perfect start for this momentous occasion for the Bristol based, globe reaching club night.
The awards, that saw Marc listed “Best Breakthrough DJ” for 2010 by Boy George, were so successful that the heads of DJ Mag requested Marc, alongside George, mix the magazines Christmas covermount CD. The B2B mix was used as a spring board for the pairs new label VG Records and featured a fresh selection of Marc’s forthcoming material like ‘Staccato’, Magic Sax’ and the hotly anticipated ‘Sunshine into my life’, which features the sumptuous vocals of Basement Jaxx lead vocalist Sharlene Hector. In somewhat of a bizarre occurrence, Marc was also requested to be the cover feature artist and cover mount mixer for Greece’s #1 dance publication Freeze December issue.
As a producer, Marc has found similar success with his studio output and claiming wide reaching support for his productions over the past 24 months. Many of his recent productions, such as ‘Only Love’, ‘Get it Out’, ‘String Circus’ and Liquid Spirit’ with vocalist Tricia Kelshall, of Way Out West fame, have picked up support in the DJs as wider reaching as Tiësto, Erick Morillo, James Zabiela, Matt Darey and Roger Sanchez, whilst radio support has included Radio 1 veterans Pete Tong, Judge Jules and Annie Nightingale.
Whilst his forthcoming release on Koolwaters Digital called ‘Ragga Blip’ is a brilliant rework of the classic ‘On a Ragga Tip’ by SL2 and has already been causing a stir with the scenes prime tastemakers. His forthcoming single ‘Escada’ has just been signed to Kid Massive’s own label Get Down. Alongside this Marc has a number of exciting studio projects lined up with Skin from Skunk Anansie, Abigail Bailey, Andy Moor and Jesse Voorn, as well as remixing Joss Stones upcoming single for Sony Records.
With his own dance brand Koolwaters exploding globally and the thriving growth of its recording imprint arm, it may come as little surprise then that the last KW CD compilation with Kid Massive proved a winning album package, selling huge volumes worldwide and receiving great media acclaim. The brands latest CD project, co-created with one of Asia’s biggest clubbing brands, is out now and so far has been well received. To promote this compilation, Marc embarked on a gruelling tour covering various Asian destinations that included Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia before returning to Europe. The CD compilation features tracks from heavyweight house performers such as John Dalhback, Deadmau5, Steve Angello, Harry Cho Cho Romero plus many more world-class artists.
So with success beaming in from global tours, multiple entries into the Top 40 UK pop dance charts, on top of growing interest from the scenes biggest names and labels, 2010 looks something of a purple patch period for the man once dubbed “the next Sasha” by clubbing bible Mixmag.
