Alpha Pup Returns to Brooklyn with SAMIYAM, Shlohmo & Shigeto on Saturday June 25
After last month’s wild debut to a sold-out crowd, Alpha Pup NYC returns to the Knitting Factory Brooklyn on Saturday, June 25 with three very different and very talented producers: SAMIYAM, Shlohmo & Shigeto.
Returning with reinforced subharmonics this time around, Alpha Pup’s late night, all-ages gathering will showcase the demented sound of SAMIYAM, whose upcoming release Sam Baker’s Album drops June 28 on the influential label Brainfeeder. One of Los Angeles’ most progressive and recognized producers, SAMIYAM’s raw, off-kilter beats with a psychedelic edge have helped to spearhead the revival of interest in instrumental hip hop.
Standing on the bright side of the shifty beat movement, Shlohmo has risen “from teenage beat junkie to headlining act in little over a year's time” (LA Times). The young producer creates multi-strata music whose undeniable thunk shuffles somewhere between abstract instrumentalism, progressive synth funk and hip-hop based IDM. Completing the lineup is Brooklyn local Shigeto, whose vividly beautiful electronica is beat-driven but given to richly textured sound design, rhythmically fractured and melodically sumptuous.
Alpha Pup NYC takes place June 25 and every last Saturday of the month at the Knitting Factory, located at 361 Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn, New York from 12am to 4am. Tickets are available on the Knitting Factory website.
