KURK KOKANE, aka Joel Mammone has exploded on the OZ Dubstep scene after beginning his quest for world domination in June 2010!! His reputation has grown quickly since playing his first run of shows with heavy weight internationals such as Doctor P, Flux Pavillion, Cookie Monster, Foriegn Beggars, Trolley Snatcha, Skism and the list goes on.. KURK KOKANE, the Name and the Sound, have begun to be heard by people the World over, earning him a worthy following already.
Even though KURK KOKANE is just starting to gain a reputation, the Melbourne based producer has been a part of the OZ music scene for over a decade. Starting drums leassons at the age of four lead him to be drumming and producing in the Hiphop scene for over 6 years under another alias.
KOKANE's recent endeavours includes the forming of OZ Dubstep/Drumstep/DnB crew 'KPC', incorporating the talents of POP THE HATCH & CREEPTOWN! They have already been signed to the US based label PLAY ME RECORDS and thats for their first EP release!!
After losing his house and studio to a devastating house fire that burnt 20 years of family valuables and10 years of production.. it wasnt long after that Joel was to rise from the ashes to become.. KURK KOKANE!!
His first professional DJ gig was when he was just 14, with Elf Tranzporter who also still perform together today. He was quickly introduced to scratching and took a break from producing to mastermind his new electronic addiction. Twelve years later and Wasabi is known worldwide as one of Australia’s tightest and most prolific turntabilists.
Wasabi’s much sought after DJ skills have landed him gigs supporting some of the biggest international names in hip hop, drum and bass and dubstep, including Redman & Method Man, De La Soul, Jean Grae, Promoe, Talib Kwali, Scribe, DJ Craze, Mixmaster Mike, Public Enemy, Arrested Development, Andy C, Dj Marky and so many more over the years.
Since redirecting his focus back to production, He has developed an intelligent bass heavy beat driven style, moving forward into dubstep, glitch, whomp hop, neuro dub and even minimal tech. His debut solo album, due for release in June 2011 has taken Wasabi to a realm of the studio that he’s been scratching at for the last 13 years.
Wasabi is also avidly dedicated to youth development and has been running workshops for disadvantaged youth for the past eight years. 2011 is going to massive for Wasabi with his first ever full length solo release and a Euro tour in kicking off August.
