Dave Ritchie has been an avid collector of music for longer than he cares to admit, with his tastes covering a far ranging spectrum of music. It is this passion that is reflected in his sets where his main focus is the deepest of house music and on to the darker side of techno and tech house. It is the untempered energy he brings to each performance that enables him to effortlessly blend these genres to create his own unique sound, taking the crowd on a creative and wonderfully eclectic journey.

Dancing and dance music has always been a major part of Mark’s life. His inspiration as a kid came from watching Breakdance and Hip Hop films. He was regularly involved in Breakdancing and Popping challenges with kids in local crews around the streets of East London, battling for supremacy. Bringing out mix tapes onto the streets and dancing from dusk till dawn. Early Hip Hop and Electro tracks provided the focus he needed to move away from the mainstream 80’s pop that seemed to have no feeling. Already a vinyl collector from as early as 10 years old, he had always had a desire to DJ.
As London moved into the late 80’s and early 90’s club culture was born. This was the catalyst to once again fuel his burning desire to DJ. And so from then on his love for music was encapsulated by House!
Self taught like most DJ's Mark learnt the ropes to DJing the hard way. His earliest gigs took him to the rough streets of least London. The underground scene was a hard dancefloor to please. The atmosphere while sometimes electric, could also be hanging on a knife edge with rival gangs crowding the most gastly of venues. Memories of doormen gaurding the decks with guns attached to there ankles are not exaggerated!!!!
Eventually opportunities came thick and fast to DJ in london's clubs and bars, instantly performing to a far more musically educated and fun loving crowd. At this point Mark began to favor the more soulful house sounds coming from the U.S., and it was then that his love for New York was born. Over the years he would be inspired by New York’s DJ’s, Music and Styles. While DJing for many years in londons underground, this sound and style was not the norm, but would always get a positive reaction.
With age and experience the mind would broaden, bringing into the mix many different genres, adding depth and feeling to the journey.
Emerged while working in her local community. As a youth and community worker in her late teens and early 20s she observed new genres arising in British based music. UK garage was in its infancy and a worthy contender to challenge the underground jungle hardcore and techno rave scene. Her mentors were two northern lads from Rochdale. Having spent her formative years in Cheshire and Manchester she immediately identified with their northern roots and eclectic musical tastes whilst most clubs and pirate radio stations were playing jungle and happy hardcore these bedroom DJs and vinyl enthusiasts were spinning Rare groove, Northern soul, U.S, Italian, acid and hip house, alongside (covey tech) Techno and hardcore.
In 2000 she hung up her headphones to concentrate on being a mother. She was still in regular contact with friend and associates in the industry and would on occasion dust off the vinyl for private parties. She was eventually persuaded to get back on the decks after a friend managing a bar was looking for DJs. The fact that she was female was no longer a novelty so she relied on her ability to play a tight set with a refreshing and unexpected style.....this was her niche! She recalls "One Sunday afternoon when I was playing at El Paso in Old street and MC Charlie brown picked up the mic and started to spit bars over my mix Garage was at its peak and I was playing with the big boys! I’ll never forget this guy that came up to the DJ booth took one look at me and started screaming It’s a woman!!!! " It was only after she'd finished her set he approached her and said her style was unique and that he knew she must be new in the on the scene as she wasn't playing the what every other DJ was playing on the hour every hour!
Since then she has made every effort to play outside of the box! Essentially she would class herself as a house connoisseur..... Not to be pigeonholed she believes her style is a journey not a genre! "My first love (After my children!) is playing all types of music...... It just so happens that I have a passion for all things House... I am a vinylist at heart and now thanks to the wonders of modern technology. I no longer have the burden of dragging records around since using my laptop and serato! I am equally comfortable on CDJs personally preferring pioneers!"
