Nick Curly

Nick Curly can look back on an enthralling two year spell where his package of killer productions, red-hot record labels and captivating DJ sets have combined to make him one of the most talked about artists to arrive on to the underground scene.

A few summers ago Nick took his career to a new level when he launched his DJ residency at Space Ibiza.

Producing records since 2005 and, at that time, only a well known name in Germany’s Rhein-Ruhr area, Nick’s early releases on murmur, Supernature, 8 bit and Plastic City laid the groundwork and lit the fuse in the mid 00’s, before subsequent tracks like ‘Pujante’ (Cocoon), and the Cecille releases ‘Stuntman’ and ‘Dubnoise’ saw Nick explode out of the domestic German scene and on to the worldwide stage for the first time. The big names were not slow to identify his talent and hugely well received remixes soon followed on Get Physical, Liebe*Detail, Mobilee and Saved.

As a creator of taste, Nick has taken his Cecille and Cecille Numbers labels, that he run together with Marc Scholl, into the stratosphere since their inception, delivering one dancefloor smash 12” after another and, in the process, helped launch the careers of acts such as Markus Fix, SIS, Robert Dietz and Alex Celler. More recently, his work together with partner Gorge on his ‘other’ label 8 Bit Records has consistently been hitting the highest heights and Nick now finds himself in the enviable position of having three of the top 20 charted labels on Resident Advisor’s esteemed DJ charts each month.

Simon Baker

Simon Baker has played an influential part of the UK house and techno scene for the better part of the last decade. He is an artist that generates his own musical trail through a stand out style, which is purely his own and always current. Pioneering labels such as Cocoon and Playhouse have long since been pressing his tracks, and each of these has helped stamp his dextrous musical talent upon the far reaches of the globe.

The clamour for his debut artist album has grown steadily over the past few years and, in early 2011, the highly anticipated long player ‘Traces’ will be released on his home label of 2020 Vision. “I do things when they feel right naturally. My time is now,” said Simon of the upcoming release, “I have the experience now to put an album together that isn't just straight club tracks. I wanted it to represent me, my years in this music and show my more musical side. This shows in the direction I have taken in the album.” Teaser singles ‘Too Slow’ (Radio Slave remix) and ‘No Pressure’ (with remix from Art Department) - will see out the year of 2010 and serve notice of what is just around the corner.

Simon Baker has cultivated his resolute DJ skills over the last 17 years, putting them into continual practice through constant demand for worldwide touring. He recently completed his third full North American tour including a debut at Space in Miami and summer 2010 saw him regularly guest at Kehakuma at Space in Ibiza and grace the stage at the huge Carl Cox And Friends event in Mallorca. Other highlights for the year included the Parklife Festival and The Warehouse Project in Manchester, a new residency at Liverpool’s cutting edge mUmU party and air london showcases in Paris, Barcelona and Ibiza.

Laura Jones

Laura Jones' debut track Intentions spent the summer being regularly unleashed on the world's most esteemed parties by the likes of Seth Troxler, Lee Burridge and Sasha. The Leeds based producer's first foray into production was released on Matt Tolfrey's Left'd label in September and became a much loved part of DC10's Summer soundtrack.

Next up is her follow up house bomb 'Love In Me'. Set to drop on Left'd's vinyl big brother Leftroom and with early support from Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Ryan Crosson, the track is hotly tipped for big things at this year's Miami Winter Music Conference. Future cuts are also destined for Leftroom and the similarly red hot Visionquest label suggesting that the rest of 2011 should continue to be injected with Laura's distinct brand of stylishly melodic house. With such an esteemed start in production, it's no surprise that her first major excursions behind a DJ booth were for influential underground nights, Mulletover and Below earning her the stamp of 'The New Recruit' in Mixmag. Laura rates Ricardo Villalobos, Magda and Clive Henry as early influences. A classically trained pianist and singer, as a child she also studied Cello and Clarinet forming a musical beginning that suggests even greater things are yet to come.

Kate Simko

Warm, groovy and hypnotic, Kate Simko's music occupies a space between house and techno with an personal voice that sets it apart. Artistically, Simko’s background helped shape her sound into a well-rounded package: she began as a classically trained pianist who found herself at house and techno’s doorstep in Chicago in the mid 90’s. As part of her university degree in music, Simko ventured to Santiago, Chile in 2002. There, her project with Andres Bucci, Detalles, marked her entrance into minimal techno, with the release of their first record on Traum.

With two Detalles albums and several years under her belt, Simko began cultivating her own distinctive sound that has carved her niche in dance music’s avante garde. With releases on labels such as Spectral Sound, Ghostly International, and Eklo, Kate's tracks have been licensed to Circo Loco and Berghain, and supported by respected DJ's across the globe. Her standout A/V live sets at festivals and clubs have steadily built her reputation while her DJ skills earned her a spot in “Chicago’s Top 10 DJ’s” in XLR8R magazine. When DJing, her creative track selection and ability to adjust to the crowd make her a rare performer who can bring both depth and fun to the party. Among the numerous clubs and festivals Kate has played, a few of the highlight sets include Berghain (Berlin), Fabric (London), Rex Club (Paris), the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, MUTEK (Montreal), Eleven (Tokyo), and D-Edge (Sao Paulo).

Now in 2011, the highly respected German label Hello? Repeat presents the Chicago-based producer’s captivating journey of creative emotion with her debut full-length album ‘Lights Out.’ Recorded in Buenos Aires in 2009 and 2010, ‘Lights Out’ allowed Kate to explore new ideas and, most importantly, construct a longer story. A musical expedition of twists and turns, ‘Lights Out’ branches out into vast avenues of diversity. As we meander through the ten track offering, the many colours and shapes of Kate Simko become apparent. The album's wide eyed grooves and eyes closed melodies express a deep well of musical creativity and expert arrangements. Kate blurs the lines of house, techno, minimal, and ambient with ease on ‘Lights Out’ and the album is a dazzling and insightful journey through Kate Simko’s musical mind.
