Line-up / Ron Carroll (4hr set & live PA) with the IL-TOWN MAFIA featuring Tina 'Tru-Luv' & Vicki B, Antonio Zambarelli and Toby Neal
Ron Carroll began DJing in the early 80s in his very own club called Bangin Enterprize on Chicago's South Side, and after only a few years in the business, began associating with DJs like Lil' Louie, Mike Dunn and the legendary Ron Hardy. With a history of singing in church choirs, Ron started singing gospel over house tracks and in collaboration with Ron Trent, Big ED, Hula and K.Fingers released "My Prayer" and "A New Day" on Clubhouse Records.
In 1994, Ron ran into Louie Vega and asked if he could write for Masters at Work, a request that yielded the Billboard #1 Dance Hit "I Get Lifted" featuring Barbara Tucker. Shortly after, Ron worked with Byron Stingily in the Deep Soul Production Co. where he co-wrote, arranged and sang backing vocals on 6 tracks for Byron's "The Purist" album on Nervous Records. Following this success, Ron started working with producers such as Frankie Knuckles, Mousse T, Boris Dlugosch and Maurice Joshua and artists such as Destiny's Child, Adeva, Kim English and Kathy Brown, an experience that inspired him to become a full-time artist and producer.
Two years later, Ron started with Afterhours Records and produced "Sounds" and "Stronger" while also collaborating with Spiro Pagos under the name Ministers of Sound. At around the same time, Ron was introduced to Mazi from Fiat Lux Records in France just when he was scouting for a singer and songwriter for a new track called "Lucky Star", the single taken from the resulting album "Hold Up" by French group SUPERFUNK which sold a massive 2,000,000 copies world wide. Since then, Ron has peppered the dance music charts with a host of classics including "The Sermon" on Subliminal and currently with Hardsoul and the track "Back Together" on Soulfuric.
Ron Carroll is a passionate and highly accomplished DJ, vocalist and all-round entertainer who has visited Sydney three times, the first at the memorable NYE'01 New Years House Solution Party at Darling Harbour. His last two sell-out performance at Tank saw him DJ and sing to a dance floor left begging for more. This time round, Ron brings his sisters-in-crime, Tina "Tru-Luv" and Vicky B, performing live as the IL-TOWN MAFIA, to cap off what is sure to be a another classic New Year club night at Tank.
