It turns out 1996 was something of a vintage year when it comes to independent record labels. Seemingly, everyone and their mum’s favourite house music imprint is coming to the ripe old age of fifteen this year but that’s not going to stop us singing, dancing and shouting from our East London rooftop about the fact that we’ve weathered the very long -and sometimes stormy - ride and still have enough enthusiasm, energy and passion for this business and, above all, the music, to last at least another fifteen.
With over 175 releases and 1000+ tracks to our name and having been responsible for discovering some of the best up and coming producers in electronic music, it’s safe to say that Freerange Records is considered one of the most consistent and acclaimed independent house labels around today. A permanent presence in the Top 15 All Time Most Charted Labels on Resident Advisor demonstrates the high regard with which Freerange is still held by the world’s best tastemaker DJs and producers. Label partner and A&R man Jimpster has had an exceptional few years rising up through the ranks to a position where he is not only DJing week in week out worldwide but also remixing leading artists such as Josh Wink, Osunlade and Joris Voorn right through to Seal and Bob Marley. It’s also been a very busy time for fellow label mates Tony Lionni, Manuel Tur, Pezzner, Shur-i-kan and Milton Jackson who have all had critically acclaimed artist LP’s as well as numerous dancefloor-filling 12†releases, helping establish them as key players in electronic dance music.
With all this in mind, what better way to celebrate our milestone birthday than with an exclusive one-off London event held at what many consider the capital’s best venue, Corsica Studios? This small but perfectly formed two-room space allows us to put on a line-up to include DJ’s and live sets from not only Freerange and Freerange-associated DJ’s but also those from our sister label Delusions Of Grandeur.
In the Freerange Room we have a special live performance from the much lauded and rather elusive Isolée who was responsible for one of the labels most well received and biggest selling singles last year when he remixed Manuel Tur’s Most Of This Moment. Of course, the man should need very little introduction seeing as he’s responsible for countless amazing productions (including the classic Beau Mot Plage) on Playhouse, Dial or more recently Pampa and we’re absolutely delighted that he’s going to be our special guest this evening.
Joining Isolée will be Andre Lodemann and Jimpster who have hit a rich vein of form the last couple of years producing many well loved deep house hits on Freerange as well as Buzzin’ Fly, Rebirth, Z, Dessous, Best Works and Room With A View. Packed DJ schedules have seen these two playing the worlds best clubs around the world from Panorama Bar and Watergate to D-Edge and Warehouse702 to Trouw and Fabric so you know you will be in safe hands. Matt Masters will also be warming things up in fine style.
One of the most respected underground house labels to emerge in the last couple of years has to be Delusions Of Grandeur and we are very pleased to have them put together an enticing line-up for their room which includes the debut UK live set from the mighty German duo Session Victim (who will be releasing their debut LP on the label early next year.) Craig Smith of 6th Borough Project fame will also be DJing as well as DOG regulars Norm De Plume and Franc Spangler.
